Public Safety is NOT negotiable -- is is deadly serious and NECESSARY! There can be NO compromising when it comes to the safety of children, infants, women, and the elderly.
Public Safety is NOT negotiable, I'll give you that. The rate that those who provide it are compensated at, however, IS negotiable, hence the contract NEGOTIATIONS that are going on right now.
Back to the topic of the thread -- These fine young men and women are NOT workers at GE. They do a much, much more dangerous task each and every day - laying their precious lives on the line and keeping us safe....... I along with vast and overwhelming majority of Rotterdam residents join together to say "THANK YOU" to what I believe to be the most dangerous and under-appreciated of careers -- First Responder. Each and every penny our First Responders are paid would not be too much if they are saving you from a criminal, one of your children was in danger, or a murderer was in your home..... WHY would any of you complain NOW? You should thank GOD for them on your hands and knees. To the nayboobs I say "GFY." I for one -- will be thrilled no matter WHAT they are paid, because we HAVE them here to protect us. So DROP DEAD if you believe that you should have ANY beef as to WHAT they are paid -- because the CONTRACT which was dually ratified is IN FORCE and is just, in lieu of the danger their job entails.
Ham, you STILL have not answered the question?
Just answer this question with a "yes" or a "no"............ Should homeowners be required to pay taxes so high that they wind up losing their homes to tax foreclosure just to provide a high pay for public safety??????
Why are you such a big chicken to simply answer a "yes" or "no"
Why is it so difficult for you do just simply type a yes or no to that question????? Why Ham????? Why?
.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Just go ask the cops themselves on shardon court....they get away with murder when it comes to taxes. Under assessed and don't pay there fair share, but our assessor won't hear it.....keep paying them the big bucks, exclude them from the taxes the rest of us pay and watch the mansion grow.....Their Cops for gods sake...WTF
The fact is that the men and women who serve the Town of Rotterdam in the Police Department are professionals. They will protect and serve ALL who need them -- even the useless nayboob twits who do nothing but insult and demean our law enforcement community.
Bullshit!!!! not all of them SOME ... are liars and scoundrels and wlil lie to savetheir overpayed asses. And the boss will protect and serve themselves. I called them to take care of drug dealers, they were not interested, too scared maybe.... or not enough glory or news coverage for them... but they were interested in kicking my a** for no reason other asking questions, their tender little overinflated male egos are out of control. when asked reasonable questions.
some of them are brainless idiots who should not be allowed to carry around weapons.

I'm not sure if you all know this, since I don't see where anyone mentioned it. But the list of Rotterdam police and their pay seems to have omitted a few highly paid personnel, so the Rotterdam tax payers are actually shelling out more money than was mentioned in the newspaper article. Investigator Donald DeMarco was listed in 2009 as making close to the $100,000 mark, so I'm sure by now he makes over that amount. No doubt, the other Investigators are in the same ballpark. Mr. DeMarco's name is listed on the Rotterdam police web site, so he still is employed there. Having lived in Rotterdam for over forty years, I now live in a town about twenty five miles away. I read the remarks about how well paid the first responders are in Rotterdam, and couldn't help but think how where I live now, the first responders are volunteers. Although we pay our police officers, its not protection from crime that we are that concerned about. Our concern is more about the dangers of the Schoharie Creek overflowing. I always figured paying large amounts of money for protection was what the Mafia was known for, not our local police department. I sure hope the Rotterdam tax payers can can get things under control, you need officers who are concerned more about the town than their personal wealth.
I spend a good amount of time thinking about this issue. We do need a large police force, and DV/HAM are right, it's not like these people are picking grapes. They are working in a VERY dangerous job in a VERY dangerous area. Any traffic stop could be their last with the amount of drugs and violence in schenectady county. I think attacking these men and women is not wise, and instead we should be attacking the waste in the city. It's not the RPD's fault, it's everyone's. It's joe and janna who are working under the table and collecting benifits. It's a local construction company knocking on doors telling people their roofs are dented with hail when they are not and getting tax payer funds to do the job. I personally would rather have to many emergency personel that not enough. But we could go into city hall and start cutting waste very simply. When working anywhere in ROtterdam is better then any job in the public sector doing the same thing ( this is true for most state and county jobs) then you see the issue. You do not need to pay someone a huge salary and give them a pension because they pave for the city, when people would line up to do it cheaper and pension free. That is the problem. The waste.. Pay the cops to keep us safe, and cut the waste. You can all keep playing Dem's did, Rep's did it, Dem's did it, Rep's did it. The few of us who are wise know it's all of the fools that screwed this city and took what they could.
But off of my soapbox.... The question is, could you find someone to get the same job success at a cheaper rate? If so, do it Rotterdam .
I don't spell check! Sorry... If you include "No offense" in a statement, chances are, your statement is offensive.

The only correction that I would make to your comments -- I am NOT Hamburg, nor do I agree with most of the crap that Hamburg posts. Hamburg is worse than a nayboob .. he or she is pretending to be somebody else in a cowardly attempt to make others think that I am posting those comments.
