Looks like the city just authorized for the lease of 2 fire pumpers for just under $1,000,000. Does anyone know how many years this is? Is it a good deal?
They seemed to have no interest in purchasing. Do these trucks get that much use? How many miles can they put on in such a small city?
In addition, the more I reasearch the more I see fire companies useing less than 1,500 GPM and going more to foam/hybrid applications. 1,500 GPM just isnt necessary unless you have taller buildings and the extra GPM just does more damage.
I see that many of the Albany Fire Stations have older equipement and dont lease them. In the commitee meeting they had only 3 bids and they kept talking about the spesifications they wanted. 1,500 GPM was the only real spesification discussed. Call me crazy but I think a purchase would have been a better choice or even purchase th e ones we have that are at lease end. Or keep the 2 we have and then purchase one new one as a backup. The spending just doesnt make sense.
