SCHENECTADY, NY - Two children were found alone in an apartment as a fire occurred nearby in Schenectady on Monday.

Schenectady police say a small fire happened on the 600 block of Lansing Street and was quickly dealt with.

The fire led authorities to a neighboring residence where the children were found unattended and uninjured. The children are two-years-old and four-months-old. The whereabouts of the parents are unknown at this time.

The children are safe and in protective custody. The Youth Aid Bureau and Child Protective Services are involved in the investigation.

No further details have been released at this time

Mother offered jail time in arson case
She would serve 6 months under deal; she had faced felony count

By Paul Nelson
Published 11:35 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012

SCHENECTADY — A 21-year-old woman charged with torching a pile clothes in a vacant apartment and fleeing the building without her two young children would serve six months in jail under a proposed plea deal, according to attorneys involved with the case.

During Tuesday's arraignment in Schenectady County Court, Jessica Lupi pleaded not guilty to arson, burglary, criminal mischief and child endangerment in connection with the Feb. 21 blaze.

On the felony arson charge alone, she faced up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Her attorney, Stephen Signore, was hopeful Tuesday that Lupi would accept the plea bargain, but Judge Karen Drago wanted time to review the possible agreement and adjourned the case to Thursday.

At that time, Lupi could plead guilty to fourth-degree arson, a felony, in exchange for six months behind bars and five years' probation. She is being held on $25,000 bail at the county jail and would receive credit for time served...................>>>>......................>>>>................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....24.php#ixzz1sOBto7mI
