General Electric Co. plans to hire 5,000 veterans over the next five years and invest $580 million to expand its aviation business.
In addition, its aviation unit will add more than 400 new manufacturing jobs and open three new plants in Ellisville, Miss., Auburn, Ala., and Dayton, Ohio, next year. GE said that the plants are part of its efforts to create or rebuild 16 facilities and more than 12,000 new jobs. The company started production on its first new appliance line in more than 50 years last week at Appliance Park in Louisville, Ky.
In the Capital Region, GE is opening a battery plant in Schenectady and built a healthcare plant in North Greenbush. GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt on Monday had praise for the company's Capital Region operations and the role union leadership played in helping them thrive. During an interview with the Times Union, he said the Schenectady operations are on an "upswing" and the corporate laboratories in Niskayuna were at "a high point."

Glad to see GE openly advertising discriminatory hiring practices. Maybe they'll announce they will hire 5000 Catholics to help Obama firm up Catholic support. |

I don't believe even one word of it!! NOT ONE!! We have been hearing 'we're gonna do this'.....'we're planning to do that'.......'it will be better when we do this'!!! It's all bullcrap!! Just like the METROPLEX/GILLEN will lower taxes in schenectady! Bullcrap!! Taxes have risen to the highest in the state. Just like the new recycling program in schenectady was going to create a revenue and save money. NOT!! It's costing more!! Just like the county nursing home will cost MORE when the federal government stops funding medicaid. As far as GE........here is what they have done for America...only 12,000 jobs!!!...they can kiss my a$$!!!

http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn......sage-is-sent-to-u-s/GE moving X-ray business to China. What message is sent to U.S.? FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty: Here is more evidence of the suicide mission this country is on: General Electric announced it's moving its 115-year-old X-ray business from Waukesha, Wisconsin to Beijing, China. The X-ray business is part of General Electric's GE Healthcare unit, and this move is just part of a broader plan by GE to invest $2 billion in China. In January, President Obama asked Immelt, a self-described Republican, to head up the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Tapping Immelt was supposed to provide the Obama administration with a business world perspective on job creation - not in China - here. The administration also hoped it would give the president a leg up negotiating with the Republican-controlled House on deficit reduction, jobs programs, and health care. And we can all see how that's worked out really well. Two months after Immelt was named to the council, The New York Times reported that General Electric paid no income taxes last year... thanks to some fancy accounting footwork, even though the company earned $14.2 billion in profits last year - more than $5 billion in the U.S. alone.

http://www.ourfuture.org/blog-entry/2011010321/who-should-be-leading-our-job-creation-strategyGeneral Electric CEO Jeffery Immelt has fooled the media and the White House into believing that he cares about American manufacturing jobs. I have a hard time imagining a worse pick, unless Obama would have tapped Immelt’s predecessor Jack Welch, who seemed fine with the idea of putting factories on barges in search of the lowest wages in the world. Let’s look at GE’s jobs record. You would have difficulty finding a company that has outsourced more jobs and closed more American factories than GE. While they have slashed their American workforce to fewer than 150,000, GE has dramatically expanded its global presence, now employing over 300,000 workers worldwide. Yes, GE has brought a trickle of jobs back to the U.S. over the past two years, but it still outsources more than it insources. And those executives at GE are not clueless—they realize the value of good publicity as it announces new hires at a time like this. But they do not devote nearly the same amount of publicity to their factory closings.

I just want them to pay back all their free money, and that would include all the tax breaks they get right here in the county and school districts. |

If Immelt worked in the Bush administration and GE didn't pay income tax, Box would have twice the blame Bush heart-on than the one he already has. But...since GE is now perceived to be an Obama fat cat crony, their sins of irreversible environmental damage and environmental exploitation of 3rd world countries and job exportation have all been forgiven. The left now LOVE General Electric. |

LOL! Don't ya love Cicero's twisted view on every issue! I'm no fan of GE. IMO, most large US Corporations BUY OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, and GE is no different. GE does what's good for GE, if that means shifting it's labor force to Mexico, like it did with it's 'bucket shop' in the late 90's, it will move, even if it meant the death of Schenectady and surrounding area cities. GE polluted the Upper Hudson with PCB's then, when asked to clean up it's mess, it spent more dollars on lawyers and posturing, than it would have cost GE to clean up the PCB's. GE has contracts to outsource it's turbine & generator designs to other producers. If you look at some Hitachi designs, you will see an exact copy of a GE design... GE makes a profit whether built here in Schdy, or in Japan by Hitachi. There is NO LOYALTY to the USA. There are several posts on this board about JOBS LOST... When I post about GE JOBS GAINED... Cicero voiced his opinion "AGAINST US JOBS!" |

Funny.....Imlet 'is' a republican!!! So ya see, this is called 'working together'. And again to my point.............just a different side of the same exact corrupt coin!!! Funnier than that...........the brainless actually think that american's should kneel at the alter of GE for providing 12,000 jobs while evading taxes on 'how many b/millions?? Just too funny! Now that's what I call............'taxing the rich'! |

I'm not against U.S. jobs...I just like pointing out the fact that if the President was a Republican and Immelt worked for he Republican administration, AND it was reported GE paid no taxes - left wingers like yourself would be SCREAMING and point out how these 12,000 "jobs created" were on the backs of the middle class taxpayer that ended up paying GE's share in taxes that GE was able to avoid paying because they can afford to pay millions of dollars for an army of tax attorneys. But...Like a good party lemming, you can carry the water for GE when it benefits your party. And since Obama needs some PR help in the jobs department, all of GE's sins are forgiven. |
