Time Warner Cable is closing its outbound call center operation in Albany, New York, two years after announcing an expansion of the unit. The company told the New York state Department of Labor that it will be eliminating 155 positions in Albany come May. Albany area adds 4,300 private-sector jobs in December
The core Capital Region market had a net gain of 4,300 private-sector jobs between December 2010 and December 2011. (Where's your F'n REALITY Cic?) The data cover the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metro area, which includes five counties: Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Schoharie.

The strongest growth over the one-year period came from a category including construction and mining. The sector added 1,800 jobs from December 2010 to December 2011, an increase of 11.4 percent. Health care employers added 1,500 jobs, a 2.4 percent increase. A sector including scientific and technical jobs added 1,000 positions, a 3.4 percent increase. Manufacturing and hospitality were among other sectors with net increases in jobs. Retailers led the way in losses, dropping a net of 1,600 jobs, a 3.4 percent decline. (and to your constant weeping of Big Govt) State government cut 1,200 jobs over the year, a drop of 2.4 percent.

No, B0x- the news that WOULD be celebrated would be "New York is going to stop treating businesses with contempt and hate, and will welcome employers creating jobs instead of abusing and tyrannizing them." THAT would be celebratory, but it will never happen. Liberals will continue the campaign of hate towards capital until there is nothing left. The captive audience that is Wall Street has already teamed up with the bureaucracy, but job GROWTH will continue to be elusive, especially here in upstate. And that is because of anti-capital hatred and bureaucratic abuse.
Did you see the guy with the pizza joint who got a 5K fine for not providing enough T-shirts to his workers? The stories of abuse are legendary. Business owners are the equivalent of the Indians, the Jews and the slaves today, when you are doing business in NY state.
How obvious does it have to be that companies can't have a gun to their head and that NY is NOT appealing for them to grow in? They need to be bribed with all manner of goodies to open in Schenectady, and if you are not IN that clique, you are subject to harassment, threats, abuse and bureaucratic malfeasance and hatred. I haven't even TOUCH the highest property taxes, income taxes and energy costs in the land. It is nothing but a sand paper dildo up the butt each and every day from the criminal government of this state when you attempt to be an independent entrepreneur. Yeah, I know; you are a union stiff so you see it as the haves and the have nots. Well, you wouldn't make it a day running your own business in that state. There is a fast growing sector of have-nots... "Have NOT a chance of making it in NY so getting the hell OUT!"

The facts now known...the City of Schenectady is looking at hundreds of DOT jobs lost to Albany, Time Warner has 150 jobs moving to NC and another 70 from Sealed Air are leaving.
Even with $100,000,000 in Plex money, no one wants to do business in Schenectady. The City needs to be cleaned up before the middle class or businesses will come to STAY. To continue with such frequent crime, such poorly run schools and a Mayor who believes Key Bank can bring homeowners into a City so blatantly in chaos...well, it all needs to change.

Box, it's evident (from the recent events) that Schenectady...and New York State is not a first choice for many businesses.
My issue is that Schenectady County has SEVEN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITIES and not one of these could lure DOT to stay? Not one of them could have made a deal with Sealer Air or TW to leave the jobs in NY?
Come on, these agencies have failed, time and time again. They have no clue how to create a healthy business environment which is evident. Moving a business down the street and giving them millions to move Downtown (Transfinders) for what....$5 million for 34 jobs?

TELL THE WHOLE STORY ---- Time Warner is consolidating the outbound call center in Raleigh .. but is also consolidating another office (from other places) INTO Albany.
Everyone knows that the economy is still in a difficult stretch -- there will be consolidations and closings -- but soon enough the economy will be back on track and growing again --- and the Capital District is well positioned to grow when that happens.

Time Warner is going to hire 250 for inbound sales in capital district and those being let go can apply. Inbound sale will relocate from Washington Ave Ext to the old sears on New Karner Rd. People should read the WHOLE article before passing judgment.

Two years ago TW announced the expansion of the outbound call center and now all those jobs are going to NC. So, if history is any indicator, in a few years TW will most likely move this inbound center to NC as well....seems likely?
Again, seven different economic agencies in Upstate and why are the jobs leaving NY?
TW says they'll be spending $10 million for this Albany call center? Really? Let me know when that happens.

The REALITY is that the national economic outlook is grim at best. The housing market tanked. The job market is stagnant. And locally you have these dimwits from the METORPLEX/GILLEN trying their damnedest to make folks think just the opposite!! Manufacturing has 'left the American building' and found friendlier and cheaper and non-restrictive countries to set up shop! They clearly are not rushing to NYS and certainly not to Schenectady. Oh they may set up shop in schenectady. But only until they have sucked the METROPLEX/GILLEN/TAXPAYERS of their money along with the Empire Zone benefits. Then they beat feet!
So when will the METROPLEX/GILLEN admit that this is all a scam!! Providing the taxpayers with a false sense of security is shameful and misguided!
As far as Time Warner..........don't let anyone kid you....they are hurting. Not bleeding to death...but hurting. Between Direct TV, Dish Network and Verizon....the competition is getting hot. TW has no choice but to lower their operating costs in order to stay in the game. And that is what it appears they are attempting to do.
