Of course, all the OT plus the value of city vehicles helps the wage - artificially

Raises for the public sector.

Then of course, the prviate sector and NFP jobs that are subsidized by the taxpayers which are hurting the homeowners and causing them to flee the city in droves as well as causing property values to plummet big time

What I see in the article clear as day is that Schenectady is not currently capitalizing on one of the greatest potentials in the whole country which is to grow manufacturing and distribution.  The United States is undergoing an unprecidented growth in manufacturing jobs again due to the weak dollar and we are replacing the most prime parcel of land at Alco to build more residential units.  It does not make any sense.  How are we rewarding GE for staying.  How are we rewarding STS Steel by landlocking them.

That makes perfect sense.

First - you must be a product of a charter school as evidenced by your poor spelling --- it is UNPRECEDENTED.

Second - as energy costs rise .. there will be a trend toward living in urban centers and within urban centers riverfront/waterfront property is highly desirable for residential development ---- so the ALCO project is a good project that will do well.

Third -- there are plenty of other sites within the city and county which can be redeveloped for manufacturing and other light industry -------- I point to the many unused acres at the GE Main Plant  which are directly linked to I-890.

The acreage is unused due to overtaxation by the host city.  There is plenty of unused braincells in your head.

Where did you get THIS information?

If history is reporting correctly......back in the 70's, when energy costs were equivocally higher, high unemployment, interest rates were in the double digits......the housing market was NOT in the crapper like it is now.....and people were buying homes!!! No one was flocking to 'urban areas'. In fact they were trying to leave them.

This kind of rhetoric is just a way of trying to sell/convince people of this lie!

Ya can't shine sh!t!

For 50 years, Sheneck county has had the highest private sector employment with GE, R&D, Knolls, UC and SI. Most of the workers unfortunately hightail it to Clifton Park the second work lets out. Of course you can deny it but one only needs to be on Balltown Road in the late afternoon to see it.

Exactly! Schenectady County has always had the highest wages in the region because of GE R&D/KAPL. Old news that means nothing to overtaxed County residents. Then 90% leave for REP well run Saratoga County where the taxes are 75% less. This includes Gazetto editors and management. Things are so wonderful Downtown that even the State is pulling out 240 workers to Colonie. Now that the DOT is fleeing the County why doesn't the Gazetto move back Downtown to be part of the "amazing turnaround"- lol.

Schenectady County topped Albany and Saratoga counties in terms of average weekly wages between June 2010
and June 2011: $937 vs. $931 and $804, respectively, according to the quarterly report. In addition, Schenectady’s
average weekly wage rate was above the national average of $891, but below the state average of $1,092.

Schenectady and Putnam counties were the only two small counties out of 45 in New York to record wages higher
than the national average.

Schenectady’s weekly wage average is above the national average because of the presence of 5,600 high-paying
manufacturing jobs in the county. “These are jobs that are paying an average of $1,500 a week, and that brings up the
county average”

Schenectady is home to several hundred jobs in fabricated metals that pay an average wage of $943 per week.
~ home to more than 500 jobs in chemical manufacturing that pay more than $1,400 per week.
~ the manufacturing sector also includes jobs at the General Electric steam turbine and battery-making facilities in Schenectady.
~ SI Group employs 400 people in Schenectady County, half of whom work at the chemical manufacturing plant in
Rotterdam Junction and half of whom work at the company’s global headquarters in Niskayuna.

~ In terms of job growth, Schenectady County saw its workforce expand 2.2 percent between June 2010 and June
2011, the most recent data available. This was the second-highest growth among Capital Region counties, after
Saratoga County’s 2.5 percent expansion.

Yet to hear it told on this board... Everything is terrible!

And YOU are a product of the government schools, no, the SOCIALIST schools, actually a combo of both.  It must have been the village that raised you.  The villeage teaches that they know better for the children than the parents, the village will provide for you, no need to work, just take money from the peasants, from the working people, and give it to the rich and politically connected and the democrat hacks

Get off your duff and get a job.   Become an adult and move out on your own!
