Downtown business district board seeks members
BY BETHANY BUMP Gazette Reporter

The city’s business improvement district is calling on city residents to submit names of individuals who are interested in serving on its ninemember board.
Three seats are up for appointment this year on the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation’s board of directors. At least one must be filled by a property owner within the Downtown Special Assessment District. The remaining two seats are available to property owners or their agents, or nonproperty owners with interests in downtown.
The seats up for grabs include those currently filled by Frank Gilmore, of Stracher-Roth Gilmore; Tom Wilson, of T Wilson & Associates LLC; and Jack McDonald, of John M. McDonald Engineering. Although their three-year terms are set to expire, they can all nominate themselves to fill the seats.
Board seats have been highly coveted and frequently disputed in the past. Because a portion of the DSIC’s annual operating budget comes from fees paid by property owners with the special district, seven of the nine board members must be district property owners or their agents.
The nomination process came under fire in previous years after property and business owners lodged complaints that members weren’t being chosen who represented their diverse interests.
But through a nomination process adopted in 2009, Schenectady property owners and businesses were given more input in naming candidates to the board. ..........................>>>>....................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00903&AppName=1

DV wants to nominate that company in Texas that owns the property that houses the DOT

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

What's the big problem here? DSIC goes around to local businesses and 'informs' them that they are in a 'special district' and have to pay the $300+ 'fee'. Why don't they just employ the same method to extort these people to get on the board as well.

Is this one of the 7 Upstate agencies....another one that should be disbanded? Or should we all be 'grate-ful' for their services.

They should be consolidated and eliminated.
