With regard to this subject it boils down to Gov't bean counting. It is far cheaper to let the taxes lax and NOT foreclose and let others pick up the tax owed amount slack. As the landlords provide a valuable service to the Gov't- they house the people the Gov't feels responsible for. To foreclose would result in the "dumping" of these tenants somewhere else. Somewhere where a Plex related endeavor is going on or another neighborhood being "improved" may not want them. So if the landlords did'nt do it, the Gov't agencies would be responsible first hand. They feel they don't need another headache. Hence keep them where they are. And in Sch'dy's case the last thing they need is more condemmed/vacant housing that no one wants to buy anyways. They really do not want to be in the realty business. Water/trash services cut off? Never happen. Too much residual fallout, unsightly trash piles and the deprivation of a basic human need such as water could not be tolerated. And loss of face projected on, in this case, a socialist program. Not saying this way is good/bad. But people must be housed somewhere. Guess the issue is how is it to be accomplished. |
