Good thing poverty for people between 18 and 64 is trending upward.  Success...People that are working are becoming poorer, while people "retired" are collecting the money from the working through one of the many social programs keeping them out of poverty.  Awesome - the socialist’s dream, making ALL PEOPLE equally poor and dependent on big brother.

The one thing this chart doesn’t take into consideration is the fact the money keeping the elderly out of “poverty” was debt.  We are at a point in time where it is time to pay the piper, we’ve been handed the check.  Who’s paying the bill?  I predict that in the coming years poverty will be redefined as the wealth of the whole nation goes down and the middle class is wiped out.  The politicians will attempt to convince people that their lower standard of living is not of poverty but of some other class.

The Bush Economic Meltdown has caused many to suffer... for a brief period, EVEN THE RICH had a downturn.
The Bush Tax Cut For The Rich, while borrowing to FUND TWO WARS has almost destroyed this economy.
Thank God for Barack Hussein Obama!

According to the Federal Poverty Level the figure you are using as the amount for a single person, about $9000 per year, doesn't count free or subsidized housing, food stamps or any other government program that you may be on. Free health insurance for kids under 19 who aren't Medicaid elegible if income is under $1500 per month and as your income goes up the fee to purchase goes up gradually per child until you reach the maximum rate of $60 per child per month.  http://www.nyc.gov/html/hra/downloads/pdf/income_level.pdf

You do know congress is responsible for funding wars correct?  Presidents can't just borrow money, you know that right?  Obama and the democrats controlled all 3 houses for 2 years, I take it they cut spending, didn't renew the "Bust Tax Cuts For the Rich", and didn't pass any unfunded legislation that would add to the debt?

Stop the self indoctrination with media matters propaganda, start using your own brain.

Shadow, you've been dancing around this post since post #45.  YOUR WORDS:

1. "One problem Box, hospitals can't refuse care for anyone even those without money."
That statement is not true.  Saying it's true doesn't not make it so.

2. "Medicaid covers the poor".
Medicare covers some of the poor. It does NOT cover many poor Americans.  Saying it's true doesn't not make it so.

Keep splitting hairs with your spin on words Box, if a person is seriously ill a hospital can't rerfuse treatment. To continue treatment after the poor are released from the hospital there are free clinics available to them. There are health insurance plans available to low income people that they can afford if they chose to do so. Nobody goes untreated if they need care.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act
How does EMTALA define an emergency?

An emergency medical condition is defined as "a condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity
(including severe pain) such that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected to
result in placing the individual's health [or the health of an unborn child] in serious jeopardy, serious impairment
to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of bodily organs."

If a patient is suffering a heart attack, the hospital must treat that patient.  If the heart attack is over, and the patient
is stable... the patient can be discharged with no other treatment.  No follow up,  preventative, or other treatment
is required by the hospital.
If a patient is in Diabetic Shock, the hospital must treat that patient.  Once stable, the patient is discharged with no
other diabetic treatment required.
~If a patient has Carpal tunnel syndrome, it's not an emergency situation and the hospital can refuse treatment.
~If a patient has Congestive Heart Failure, but is stable, it's not an emergency situation and the hospital can refuse
treatment.
~ If a patient has Emphysema, and is stable , it's not an emergency situation and the hospital can refuse treatment.
~If a patient has arthritis, and is stable, it's not an emergency situation and the hospital can refuse treatment.

All are serious conditions in need of medical care, but hospitals are NOT required to treat them.

Anyway -- back to the topic -- FDR's Birthday -- I wasn't able to drive down for the anniversary of his birthday but am planning to drive down on April 12 (the anniversary of his death)  --by then we should be enjoying some pleasant spring weather and the Hudson Valley is always beautiful that time of year.

It might be a good idea to charter a bus and invite Rotterdam residents to visit FDR's home and attend the graveside services on April 12.

You are doing it once again Shadow.  This seems to be your normal method of posting...
You offer your opinion as if it were fact.

If my job pays more than  $4.23 an hour, ($170 a week, $8,818 per year) I'm not eligible for Meidcare.

so back to my original post...

Hospitals are required to give anyone EMERGENCY CARE!    A hospital is required to treat
anyone for an emergency condition.  If you're dying from a heart attack, they must treat you and stabilize you.  BUT
once you are no longer in a life threatening condition... they can dismiss you.
A heart bypass may be what you need to prevent you from dying from heart disease, but they are not required to
provide one with out insurance or enough dollars to pay for it.
If you need a knee surgery, a hip replacement, if you have a stabilized brain tumor, or have cancer that needs
treatment, but you are stabilized... they are not required to treat you beyond an emergency condition.

CORRECT!!!!! THAT'S THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU WANT TO LIVE....YOU WORK FOR YOUR LIFE......GET IT....???? I'm not sure I should have to pay for some dumb a** who eats Mc Donald's everyday
and clogs their arteries....do you??????

who determines your poor choices?
who determines your upbringing?
who determines your genes?
who determines your laziness?
who determines you work hard?

yes....life is life just as abortion is abortion.......suck it up....THE WORLD AIN'T FAIR AND I AIN'T TRUSTING IT......GET IT?

after being in healthcare for 20+ years....I have learned a truth....check it out if you dare....I CANT PUT INTO YOU WHAT YOU DONT HAVE IN YOUR SPIRIT/SOUL/MIND/WILL/CONSTITUTION....
and neither can your neighbor/government/religion/parents etc etc.........

access means: know what you seek, seek it, obtain it........

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

We'll be serving FDR's favorite cocktail on the bus trip down to his home ---  vodka martinis .. shaken not stirred --- and singing "Happy Day Are Here Again" all the way.
