I read the Jan. 24 article [“Dogs seized at kennel owned by Popolizio”] regarding South Side Dogs and was quite surprised. Two years ago, we purchased a weimaraner from Frank [Popolizio]. We visited the kennel many times while we waited for our puppy to be born, and two of those visits were unannounced as we were in the area at the time. On each visit we found the kennel to be immaculate! The water dishes were clean and full, the grounds were spotless and the animals all appeared clean, healthy and well adjusted. They were not at all shy or timid when anyone entered the area. We visited the kennel in December and January, two very cold months, and the site was clean and warm. There is a caretaker on the premises at all times; he actually has an apartment upstairs! I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another dog from South Side and recommend that anyone thinking of doing so should take a trip out there and see for yourself! It’s a beautiful place, and while I do believe “all that glitters is not gold,” I can assure you there is nothing hidden at South Side Dogs! While I do not know Frank Popolizio personally, I felt compelled to write this letter.
By the way, has he had his house seized to cover the cost of demolition of that burned out building?

WORCESTER — A well-known Schenectady property owner has been charged after underweight dogs were seized from a breeding kennel he owns in Otsego County last week.
State Police charged Frank M. Popolizio Sr., 65, with 49 counts of cruelty to animals. Corrinne Kindt, 26, of Esperance, the manager of South Side Stables, was charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals.
Police and the SPCA made separate visits to the kennel after receiving a complaint in December and found thin dogs. On Jan. 13, both groups visited together and found the same conditions.
Over the next few days, 26 dogs were seized, including German Shorthaired Pointers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Weimaraners and Vizslas.

Police and the SPCA are not jealous breeders or a fired employee and they don't make arrests unless they see animal abuse. This guy has been getting away with breaking the law for years and it's time he's held accountable for his actions IMHO.
And he treats the taxpayers like dirt by failing to pay his taxes
And what do the dems in the city do? Look the other way. The dems do not do anything do seize his properties, they do nothing to jail him for all his code violations, and the dem have done NOTHING at all to charge him for the cost of the demolition of that building with the fire a year ago. The dmes just figure, the financially struggling homeowners can pay the bill.
And I'll bet that IF Pop is put in jail, he will STILL collect rents from his properties

Re Feb. 7 article, “Popolizio facing 49 charges of animal cruelty against dogs”: I am a friend and customer of Frank Popolizio and know him and his kennel very well. Frank is a lover of animals, and since I have visited on many occasions and have one of his dogs, I feel qualifi ed to speak on his behalf — and to put to rest the lies and stories I have read and seen on TV. His kennel is immaculate and all the dogs are well cared for and in prime condition. He has live-on-premise help at all times. I have met some of them and they, too, are animal lovers. His dogs command top prices because of their superior breeding and condition, and many of his customers are from Europe. My dog is a Pembroke Welsh corgi, and I have had him for eight years. He is a splendid specimen, has a wonderful disposition and is a beautiful pet. Frank inquires often of my Corgie, Sammy, and has come to my home to visit with him. I hope this sets the record straight for a kennel that is exemplary — and for Frank, who is a devoted breeder of magnifi cent dogs.

Of course, nothing unusual and no one cared when the tenants body was discovered a month later during taxpayer funded demolition. The empty lot still stands as a cemetery without a cross.
How often is a person’s last name used in the headline of an article? Usually, it’s the president, a senator, the mayor, etc. I am referring to articles by Michael Lamendola in the Jan. 24 Gazette (“Dogs seized at kennel owned by Popolizio”) and Feb. 7 (“Popolizio facing 49 charges of animal cruelty against dogs”). Both articles use the accused last name in the headline, yet none of the other news stories featured in those two papers used the accused person’s last name. The Popolizio family in Schenectady is quite large, so to attach the last name to an article on alleged crime can certainly perplex and bewilder. Further, each article stated that Mr. Popolizio “owns rental properties in the city of Schenectady that have been cited for code violations, including a structure in which a man died in a fire in December 2010.” Were these references used to paint Mr. Popolizio as a villain (or possible animal abuser)? Many rental property owners are cited for code violations each day, and I don’t believe Mr. Popolizio was ever charged in connection with the 2010 fire. Hopefully, Mr. Popolizio will be prosecuted on the 49 charges of animal cruelty, not his misdeeds of [the] past. Animal cruelty in any manner or form is wrong, and people should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Personally, I have no respect for anyone who neglects, or is cruel, to an animal. But can we just stick to the current issue, and show each person the same respect?
Animal abuse is a "bridge crime" I think is the term I've heard. Typically one who hurts animals will later hurt humans.
Obviously it works in the reverse too. He kept his properties for humans in terrible condition long before he got into the kennel business so he started with abusing humans and now abuses dogs.
And the city lets him off.
And what the writer said about Popolizio not being charged with anything in terms of the fire, well, maybe he didn't light the match to the building, but the dems never charged him with tax delinquency. AND the DEMS never charged him with grand larcency --- for robbing the taxpayers to pay the cost of the demolition.
Why do the city dems turn and look the other way?

When reading [the Feb.7 article,] “Popolizio facing 49 charges of animal cruelty against dogs,” I learned that farm animals are not protected under the animal cruelty law. This does not make any sense to me. Just because people use farm animals for food does not mean that people should not be held accountable for being cruel to them. The article stated that several cows were found dead on [Frank] Popolizio’s property. It also said that he could not be penalized for their deaths. If he caused their deaths, then shouldn’t he be held accountable? Animal cruelty is not just toward animals that people keep as pets. Farm animals get abused, too. No animal should be abused, and anyone who abuses an animal should be fined and put in jail. Shouldn’t all animals have the same amount of protection?
What is sick is he gets arrested for cruelty to animals. What about all the cruelty to people from that guy?
Instant Karma strikes again! How come he never pays back his taxes nor code violations in the corrupt City? Thank God he is being charged in Worchester, NY. Never happen here-where everyone is in his pocket like so many dimes.
