Tahoes – necessary for police work or a sweet ride?
January 16, 2012 at 2:24 pm by Lauren Stanforth, Staff writer

New Schenectady City Councilman Vince Riggi had promised he would be the fly-in-the-ointment now that he’s the only non-Democrat on the Council – and he appears to be delivering on that statement.

Riggi is trying to take Chevy Tahoes away from two police evidence technicians who would be getting the vehicles to replace their vans. Recently, Schenectady police assistant chief Brian Kilcullen made a presentation to City Council about approving money to buy three Chevy Impalas and three Tahoes on state contract to replace other aging vehicles. Riggi wondered why police needed the $26,000 Tahoe instead of something a little more economical. He also wonders if the evidence techs simply want a Tahoe because the car is a take home vehicle – and would certainly be a nicer ride than a van.

“With the financial condition of the city, I think every dime we save is important,” Riggi said.

But it’s not only Riggi questioning the purchase, it’s Democrat Carl Erikson, a GE purchasing agent himself who often has questions about where to save some dough.

“It comes down to saving,” Erikson said. “If everyone makes those kind of frugal decisions we’ll be doing OK.”.........................>>>>.......................>>>>....................http://blog.timesunion.com/localpolitics/10802/tahoes-necessary-for-police-work-or-a-sweet-ride/

The tahoe's should be replaced with Humvee's armed with machine gun turrets.

I am sure Humvees and Charger sedans with all the bells and whistles are next.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Agreed Tahoes are a waste. There aren't really any rural areas of the city a regular patrol car couldn't get and if they need an SUV for space their are clearly cheaper and more fuel effecient vehicles availible.

That's two biggies by the councilman who puts the taxpayers ahead of the downtown millionaires and the greedy unions.

Once again, Riggi questions the waste of tax dollars.   sorry DV, but Riggi IS the councilman who represents the PEOPLE, the TAXPAYERS, rather than the millioniares, unions, and the friends and family club members.

Just hope Riggi really starts getting very vocal and everything he questions should be in the paper in bold print headlines.

Thanks for the laugh.  The Gaz report on the truth? NOT.

I said it a long time ago.  McCarthy has his hands in everything control of city government, Law enforcement, has access to privy info and probably could get more due to his relationship to DA's office of investigators, has access to communications and the media that so called Public Access station is now run by a chosen few and not the PEOPLE and the stupid taxpayers just take it and cry and moan about the Taxes each year.  There are a core of smart folks who know what is going on, many on these boards and one on the city council who has what it takes but is that enough?

There is a large portion of this city uneducated and poor cause they choose to be.  Could care less about what is happening only caring about where they can score.

There are folks who honestly need help from DSS but only about 5%.

People on SSDI who have healed or are well enough now to do some work but it is a great deal easier to check the bank statement each 3rd to make sure Uncle Sam paid them for sitting on there butts.

SUV's for the PD there is nothing that will change that no matter how blatant the abuse is McCarthy is right in the middle of it.  Sometimes I wonder who the car dealers are that sell them?  Is it only a few or maybe even just one.  Would be interesting to find out.

Oh my, oh my I must have woken on the wrong side of the bed. Getting in some long overdue rants.

Now we can wait for DVOR to knock Riggi DOWN instead of building him UP!

Of course they have to knock him down...You can't have the "Nayboo's" questioning "The Party" publicly.  I'm sure his questioning of the Tahoe will be framed as he hates police and wants them to die on the street or some other gross distortion.

Just bought a TU online subscription.  I had been with the Gaz for a little while.  Gaz asked why I am dropping them.  I told the woman because the TU reports what is happening in Schenectady and they include the true facts.  Her reply  "oh".  Wonder if she is smart enough to look for another job because the Gaz is dying, hey wait a minute it is dead.

The should keep the same vehicles....run them into the ground.  Maintain them at the Taj Garage on Foster.

Riggi and Ericson have not said not to buy them.  Rather, they are questioning whether there are more economical alternatives.

This is the most rhetorical spin I've read/heard in a long time!!!

Riggi isn't just shooting from the hip. He's asking the pertinent questions that the taxpayers would ask. Only difference is that they 'have' to listen to Riggi...........cause they sure as hell don't listen to the taxpayers.
