Schenectady Council job candidates run gamut
By LAUREN STANFORTH, Staff writer
Published 08:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2012

SCHENECTADY — Schenectady County highway department foreman Chris Cagnina sat outside City Council chambers Tuesday night, waiting along with six others to be interviewed for an empty council seat.

"I think I could bring a different view to City Council," said the 55-year-old Cagnina, a Conservative, who has never worked in politics before and was a surprise addition to the short list of people who have expressed an interest in the job. "I've got good common sense. Maybe it's time for a change."

"It is time for a change," chimed in the young man sitting next to him, Devon Brott, a 27-year-old paralegal student from Schenectacy County Community Council who also wants to be considered to fill the one-year remainder of Mayor Gary McCarthy's term.

Such was the unusual scene Tuesday night, as the City Council allowed anyone from the public to apply to represent the city, a first in a process that is typically done in private among the political party members in power.

New City Council member Vincent Riggi, the only non-Democrat on the Council, announced a week ago he would hold open interviews for the post, as Democrats talked behind closed doors about who they would choose – unsuccessful candidate John Mootooveren or Marion Porterfield, Weed and Seed coordinator who was promised the job by the party's committee if McCarthy won. But Democratic City Council members agreed to cooperate with Riggi's effort, and all five showed up to ask questions Tuesday of the people who arrived to be interviewed..............>>>>...............>>>>...................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....46.php#ixzz1j9Yy2E8M

It is still a two horse race, but, allowing the opportunity for others to be interviewed will probably pay off in the long run

This just goes to prove that there are residents that are looking for change in their city government and are willing to step up to the plate!! Good for them!!

A while back, someone had an interesting suggestion that the council be expanded so that each major neighborhood each had a representative.

That sounds like a good idea and would give each area some input with where and what money is spent in the city.

Wow.   Vince is in office less than a week, and has already intervened and stopped this hush hush secret dem meetings.

When he spoke at POF about dems doing things in secret, the dems just brushed him off, ignored him like they ignore the rest of the taxpayers.

Vince is not a party puppet.   Wouldn't it be nice if the dems on the council would choose someone that is not one of those two party puppets and choose one of the other interviewees who are more concerned about the people and the neighborhoods than the dems are.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Oh SB, when your wife is on a feeding tube, we will all pray- even though you doomed her with your bad karma...

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

karam, sue-ra-da. is watching your candidate go down in defeat [BM] because he listens to the advice of has-been politicans [you] and politcal operatives with half a brain ... brad littlefield. And karma is seeing how u helped destroy any chance GOP had in Rotterdam by not being smart enough in running an effective politcal op. that is karma, sue-ra-da... it is not having my wife or kids on chemo or life support, which, when u think about it, is about as sick a statement as can be made. but u are know for sick statements: lowlife, jews, italians, etc... goes to your character, dude., john wayne, ronald raygun and your sainted papa would not be happy to see the man u have become.

A person with " COMMON SENSE"     AND NO POLITICAL TIES.......THAT'S IT......

AND why the indignant and slanderous chat to one another....that tells a lot about one's character....

this is not about attacking a family....this is about a council seat....NO ????

ohhhhhh the bad karma he spews! Hate hate hate! Little kiddies playing on the floor- run home and hug them for them having such a hateful daddy makes for wicked things like MS, or Lou Gehrig's or hundreds of other bad things that karma brings... how sad when you see such a bile filled mad man who laughs at people because they have a different idea, or actively tries to threaten or harass their livelyhood - then in a SNAP - things backfire! Because when you wish harm on others then the harm sometimes comes to the innocents of your household that you want to protect but cannot. Little children get terminally ill and suffer from a slow and agonizing death in front of your eyes, then you say to yourself "Maybe, just MAYBE this household should not send wishes of death and destruction out to others."

But then it will be too late for when you wish death and destruction and ruin on theirs, Karma has a way of making it all fall down on your own head... ahhhh it happens to many...

We all wish you would repent of your ways and personal desire to see others destroyed but only you can save yourself and your loved ones by banishing your hate...
