A popcorn fiend, I like to enjoy a bag of it during events at the Palace Theatre and Times Union Center in Albany, and, previously, at Proctors in Schenectady. During Saturday night’s Jim Gaffigan performance, however (my review is here), I noticed the sign at right, placed in front of the dark popcorn machine at Proctors.
After never serving popcorn at live events, Proctors introduced it some years back. But, CEO Philip Morris tells me, a recent, small but noticeable swell of complaints about noise and distraction during performances prompted the launching of an educational effort called Great Audiences. Rather than include a list of no-nos, the campaign stresses behaviors exhibited by theater patrons who are considerate of fellow audience members and of the artists on the stage.
Popcorn was the noisiest and most frequently cited of bothersome food items, Morris says. (It was never a problem for cleaning crews.) Thus popcorn was banned from being sold at live Proctors performances except those aimed at children. It’s still available for movies. The theater also changed the stock of candy and other snacks available from its concession stands to eliminate noisy plastic packaging.
What do you think: Continue the Proctors popcorn ban or bring it back?
the new Schenectady church of civil discourse......maybe they could take it on the road....???????????????
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
stop the presses.... big news here.. no popcorn for u.
meanwhile, glenville falls further into the toilet with loss of friendly's,,, maybe the town can tax the empty building as part of its economic revit plan ....
Complaining about popcorn? What about the bum pissing on the sidewalk at the bus stop? The carnival you can see walking from the parking garage to Proctors is more entertaining than their shows.
