and rachel that was not even the point I was arguing. It was that IA has proven they can hold thierbown accountable

I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing.
You're a riot.
The IA only holds cops accountable after public outcry, and even then, it's a slap on the wrist compared to what punishment somebody in the private sector would receive.

In the private sector the term would be, Your Fired, and in some instances your pension could be taken away.

How about the last 15 years?  I provided the officers names and offenses.  Didn't an officer commit suicide because of the pressures of the "blue wall" of silence?

The point is...You dismissed the statements of the attorney representing the boy that was the victim of a cop using excessive force.  I on the other hand, dismiss Schenectady Police Internal Affairs conclusions to justify the use of excessive force.  The SPD has a history of bad cops abusing their authority, this 16 year old boy doesn't.

Yes Cicero, I do agree that this cops actions could have put more people in danger BUT the fact remains: during the commision of a robbery LOTS of things can go wrong.

This cop (off duty) wasn't looking for a fight...he was RESPONDING TO A CRIME. Reponding to a fleeing criminal...

In my opinion, with the limited amount of info, I do not believe that this criminal has a valid expectation of not getting injured while committing a crime. Maybe if this kid was sober, he would not have done the crime in the first place.

Agreed Rachel.

Absolutely ludicrous that some people would blame the officer here.  Until he is found guilty of misconduct, he was an off duty law enforcement officer who stopped a criminal act.

The same people being critical of him would be complaining if had he just observed and did nothing.

Until officer Favata is found guilty in this - or some other instance of misconduct, we should be celebrating his commitment to law enforcement.

I'm so tired of people being critical of our police department.  As everyone points out here - this city has become a haven of degenerates due partially to the progressive entitlement system.  Our police officers deal with these misfits daily - and it's irresponsible to be critical of the entire department because of the misconduct of the minority.

The very few times I've had to interface with the SPD - I've been very impressed with their professionalism.

I won't defend everyone within the SPD - we all know some officers have had integrity problems, but I will defend the department, and individual officers that go out there every day and try to make a difference.

Listen.....illegal behavior from cops happens in ALL municipalities. Hell, rotterdam had an entire police force/chief who knew their town supervisor was touching young girls and yet protected the supervisor instead of the young victims. And now where is that rotterdam chief? hmmmmmmmmmm

Cops use to be a 'friend' of the people. That is not the case anymore for many reasons. They don't trust them. And I'm talking about your law abiding citizens. And now they are controlling the political arena which is even scarier. How does anyone expect folks to praise a police force that can't get a handle on crime in their city? You say that it is because of the 'entitlements'....well why aren't the cops at all of the city council meetings screaming?? Because if they are quiet and don't rock the boat with the 'powers that be'...then the 'powers that be' will turn a blind eye when the cops do something wrong.

Reminder......how many days did Hamy work in a year? And didn't he just get a nice little job while collecting his pension? And how many cops get 'let go' only to find a nice comfy patronage job in another municipality??

Give us a break!!!

I'd never defend Hamilton or the PBA...  It's disgusting what our progressive arbitrators have done...  bankrupting our cities.

Until officer Favata is found guilty - after this case was already thrown out of one court system...  He's innocent to me.

And what is that supposed to prove?

I can say you're a reflection of your neighborhood.  Does that mean you're a bad homeowner if two people on your street don't mow their lawn?

Until individual police officers are found guilty - or enough real evidence exists for me to stop defending them before a trial...  I will defend them.  The fact that people look for reasons to disparage those officers that are not yet found guilty of any illegal or unethical behaviors really disgusts me.  (The constant negativity of almost everything that comes up here - has made me want to stop visiting at times)

Note I have NOT stood up and defended officers who retire at 48 with huge pensions and go onto take a second job in law enforcement.  I have not defended Hamilton or the PBA.

Individual officers who are out there trying to protect us - yes, I'll steadfastly defend them.  And no - I am not in law enforcement, and neither do I have any friends or relatives in law enforcement.

it was an over all statement as to the leadership that is interwoven between the elected and the police force and the government systems that make up the web of a community, over the plebs specifically
in this case Schenectady County NYS....

The officer IS innocent until proven guilty AS IS the 16 year old.....does sh!t happen, sure....everywhere all the time.......

I know for fact a Schenectady Police officer who won't 'have a night out' in Schenectady to avoid such as above story.....and any officer that was off duty that did not want to pursue, I'd clap
them on the back......does the world need heros? Is that what we look for? dont bother making an effort because there's a hero around the corner to make your life all right?

how about civil, self controled individuals? long before a 'policing' is needed or required......

how many folks in the Schenectady community want to be picked to police, in an official capacity of course? It requires a certain individual and I bet that pool is small and shallow.....I'm not in it and
couldn't be.

a community reflects it's police force....it's a mirror, or it should be.......the amount of 'force' a community requires to be 'safe' is a reflection of that community, hence the reflection.

it was not meant to be desparaging toward the officer, but a thought about the system and overall leadership from the elected down to the neighborhood leadership.

I hope I explained myself....very difficult to explain one's self without the inflection needed.

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Well to be honest yes - I think the world does need more heros.

We need more Mother Teresa's, and much less Kanye West's.

They use to get unmitigated defense from me. I have learned.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Mobile terminal - attack the spelling because you cannot attack the argument.  And, what about your slanderous suggestion that I was in need of detox?  Wish your I-Pad had a key that prevented childish personal attacks.

Tommy:  Public outcry had nothing to do with Ken Hill, Kyle Hunter, Karaskiewicz or Hafensteiner, Barnes,  Lawrence, or Peters.  So, your agument is not valid.

Senders - I did not dismiss the statement, I questioned the neutrality and suggested that people should wait until the civil proceedings uncover and make a detrmination of guilt. And, again the IA
sustained the complaint of excessive force - so you don't know what you're talking about.   The 16 year old is not impartial either.  I did not suggest guilt or innocence rather I made the unreasonable
suggestion that people might want to wait for the proceedings to occur before rendering a decision.

Cicero - you keep bringing in issues that had nothing to do with the assertion that IA has found guilty officers who have been fired and have received comparable criminal sanctions.

Again, several on this board causes problems for those who are used to spouting out arguments not grounded in fact.

We will see. Only God knows. After what we have seen from the "new" era of policing and the policing industry, we are not falling over ourselves in a rush to defend any officers anywhere. Why don't you get that? Things are not black and white anymore. The public has lost its faith in the greedy policing industry and the union that backs the worst of the worst and a system that does not allow the most heinous offenders be fired immediately as they should be and WOULD be in the private sector. The entire union system has corrupted the police across the nation and it is no worse than here. Because you carry a badge and other assorted weapons and are sent here by your overlords and overseers to monitor, collect information on us and harass us- it only makes for more resentment. There is no doubt in my mind you are here to do all of the above and you are getting paid by taxpayer $ to do it. By doing this, you lower yourself down to the despotic level of a tyrant criminal.

It is as if you are intent on proving how much we need to distrust the policing industry and the government in general by your own despotic and threatening tactics.
