"About 40 people listened to a presentation hosted by the Shen Parents Choice Coalition,"

It looks like Shen is going to be dominated by the parents of 20 kids.  The worst part... they may decide to
force others to follow the LEAST EFFECTIVE PLAN... abstinence.

STD's, unplanned pregnancies, and a culture of denial... Way to go Shen!

End compulsory school and we wouldn't have this problem.  Box, your love of government FORCE creates this problem.  It wasn't even 24 hours ago you were championing Obama/Romney care, and FORCING the majority to buy insurance because of the irresponsible behavior of the minority.  I guess it's ok when the minority steers national policy giving government control of 1/6 of the economy.

Statists like box HATE when the little people push back.   Hence the Ron Paul blackout.

Remember Baghdad Bob?  Saddam's #1 spokesman when Iraq was about to fall?
He always had the story wrong... always pushed Saddams propaganda, and as the city was surrounded by
American troops... The Iraqi air force destroyed... Much of the Iraqi army captured or killed...
Baghdad Bob announced to the world:
~ "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!"
~"They're not even within a 100 miles of Baghdad.
~ They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion ... they are trying to sell to the others an illusion."

What ever happened to Baghdad Bob???

As it turns out, Baghdad Bob has been reincarnated on our very own Rotterdam Message Board, in the person of
Cicero!!!

I find it difficult to argue with Cicero on this issue... It's obvious that Cicero's  "compulsory school" was a total
waste of taxpayer dollars and effort.

Yup...It did fail, for I do not worship at the altar of state government or a corporation.  Perhaps I need to go to a re-education camp to help me understand why I should be grateful General Motors, Goldman Sachs and Solyndra received BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars.

You on the other hand...You LOVE compulsory EVERYTHING.

Of course it's LIFE!  Obviously!
So is cancer "LIFE"... So is a living bean sprout "LIFE"... So is the millions of bacteria living on your skin "LIFE".

And???  We should for some reason promote that cancer, that bean sprout or that bacteria???  The Human
appendix is made up of living human cells... yet we sometimes opt to remove it, killing those cells.  Humans
get liposuction that removes living human tissue.
No one forces you to carry to full term your cancer, those bean sprouts are not required to become beans.
Removing that inflamed appendix will often save the rest of your human cells that make up your body.
For further explanation... see below:

Shen sex ed panel
to advise board

CLIFTON PARK — The Shenendehowa Central School District has announced that its Health Advisory Council will offer recommendations tonight on the district’s sexual health unit.
The council will present its fi ndings and recommendations to the Board of Education at 7 p.m. at the Gowana Middle School Library.
A controversy arose in January when it was learned that Shenendehowa had cut long-standing ties with Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson to provide sex education in classrooms.
The district halted the program in October after a group of parents had objected to the organization teaching students about sex education. However, when the class was canceled, other parents and members of the community objected to that. Parents then packed a meeting in early January to either applaud or criticize the district for the move.

CLIFTON PARK
Shen debate continues on sex education plan

BY TATIANA ZARNOWSKI Gazette Reporter

The Shenendehowa Central School District health advisory council on Tuesday unveiled sex education recommendations that gave Planned Parenthood offi cials hope their program may be brought back into the schools and left a group of parents who champion abstinence dissatisfi ed.
The actual recommendations seem to carve a middle ground, rather than espousing either side — the report advocates teaching abstinence, communication skills and updating statistics, three things the abstinence group wanted, while leaving the door open for special guests and speakers, a role Planned Parenthood filled in the past.
No final decision on the policy or a schedule for one was set.
Educators from Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson taught a three-day portion of the sex education unit to two grade levels at Shenendehowa for many years until last fall, when a group of parents objected to the organization’s instruction and the district pulled the program, replacing it with more instruction by Shenendehowa health teachers.
When parents and community members who favored Planned Parenthood’s approach complained about the change, the district formed a 19-member health advisory committee made up of health teachers, Shenendehowa administrators, clergy and parents to study the sex education curriculum and come up with recommendations. Those recommendations were presented Tuesday night at a Board of Education meeting.
While the report appears to address things the parents who preferred abstinence wanted, they weren’t happy with it, saying the resulting curriculum will present abstinence and having sex as two equal options, rather than presenting abstinence as the best and only healthy option.
“The best way to protect yourself is to not engage,” said Amy Sandgren of Clifton Park.
Planned Parenthood officials disagree with this characterization, saying abstinence is promoted in their program, which also teaches “safer” sex alternatives such as condom use.
“This is all fantasy,” Paul Drisgula, executive director for Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson, said of the critics’ comments.
Drisgula also applauded the health advisory report.
“They described their program as ‘abstinence-plus,’ and that’s absolutely accurate.”
He said Planned Parenthood has retained a good relationship with the health teachers who invited the organization’s educators into the classroom at no cost to the district, so he believes those teachers would invite Planned Parenthood back again.
EARLIER GRADES
One thing was clear from the recommendations presented Tuesday night — the health committee wants to see health and sex education taught at a younger age than the current program of eighth and either 11th or 12th grades.
A sixth-grade health class had been eliminated and educators can see the effects of that, one council member said. The panel advises bringing back the sixth-grade health class in addition to eighth grade and teaching health again in perhaps 10th grade instead of later in high school.
The report advises having evening seminars with abstinencebased programs and with comprehensive sex education programs that teach teens how to be safer about sex. And it stresses that parents should be involved, with materials sent home to engage them in the conversation. ..........................>>>>.........................>>>>........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00903&AppName=1

Don’t misrepresent Planned Parenthood’s line on condoms, STIs

As a state-certified health teacher and health educator with Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson, I have made a professional commitment to provide young people with information that is accurate so they can make informed decisions about their health.
Recently, some individuals in Clifton Park have stated that Planned Parenthood educators and Shenendehowa health teachers are telling students that condoms are 98 percent effective in preventing STIs [sexually transmitted infection]. This is a blatant misrepresentation.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), when condoms are used consistently and correctly, they are 98 percent effective in reducing unintended pregnancy. This is the information we provide young people.
When Planned Parenthood educators discuss effectiveness rates of contraceptive methods, including condoms, we only quote effectiveness rates for pregnancy prevention. Because the research regarding STI rates and condoms is complex and difficult to interpret, we make sure students understand that if used properly, condoms can reduce, not eliminate, the STI risk.
Planned Parenthood educators also spend a great deal of time focusing on abstinence. We make it clear to students that no method, other than abstinence, is 100 percent effective in preventing STIs and/or pregnancy. Since many students define abstinence differently, we stress the importance of communication and awareness of the various behaviors that pose health risks.
We ensure that students are presented the full scope of accurate sexual health information and help them develop the ability to use this knowledge in conjunction with their personal or familial values and beliefs.

Right there is a bullshit statement...The class itself and compulsory schooling is a challenge to many familial values.  That is the purpose of state schooling, to challenge the familial beliefs of the young mind then bring them to accept the states values system through indoctrination.

Shenendehowa Opens the door to Planned Parenthood

The recommendations, developed by a 19-member committee that included teachers, administrators,
clergy and parents, continue to stress abstinence as the “healthiest choice for teens’ overall mental
and physical health.” But the recommendations also open the door for Planned Parenthood Mohawk
Hudson Inc. to again be involved in the district’s sex education program.
One of the recommendations is to explore opportunities for the district to “host evening workshops
where representatives from Sexual Risk Avoidance and/or Comprehensive Sexual Education Programs
(such as those offered by Planned Parenthood) can present information to parents, students, and families
that reinforces what is taught at Shenendehowa.”
