Excellent post!

It is misconceptions about PP like above that feeds those religious extremists' hatred, attack on PP. They don't want to listen to facts. They live on spins, exaggerations and outright lies like this. One of the church group spoke at the BOE meeting last week saying that PP said condoms were 98% effective and that that is wrong. She said "condoms were only 80% effective"! And it's people like this who want the responsibility to teach sex ed, to anyone?

Another thing she said was that "condoms were only 80% effective and women were fertile 20% of the month. You do the math." ??? Huh? WTF is this? What does one have to do with the other, even tho both numbers are wrong.

It's these kinds of backwards, neanderthal, pitchfork and fire beliefs that caused the state to mandate sex ed in our schools.

All children must kneel at the altar of PP and Margret Sanger.  They must be enlightened in the ways of proper sexual conduct.  We cannot leave this enormous responsibility to the Neanderthal parents that know enough about sex to actually have children.  So SILENCE heretics, and submit to the teachings of PP.  Silence those fanatics, there is but only ONE GOD, and that God resides in the Public School system.  Never question the teachings of the public school...For they are the ones that have been enlightened.

What Is Abstinence?
You may have heard people talk about abstinence in different ways. Some people think of abstinence as not having
vaginal intercourse. They may enjoy other kinds of sex play that don't lead to pregnancy. This is better described as
outercourse.

Some people define abstinence as not having vaginal intercourse when a woman might get pregnant. This is better
described as periodic abstinence, which is one of the fertility awareness-based methods of birth control.

And some people define abstinence as not having any kind of sex play with a partner. This is the definition we use
on these pages.

Being continuously abstinent is the only way to be absolutely sure that you won't have an unintended pregnancy
or get a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

This was one of the main issues for the Shen parents asking for PP to leave the sex education class. There are three different variations for the word abstinence.

You would never find such wording or false 'definitions' of what 'other people think' in a regular sex ed class.

Also, these parents weren't given ample time to 'opt out' of the class. Most likely a clerical oversight.

Planned Parenthood spends $42 million (of a federal grant/reimbursements totaling $487.4 million) on sex education. One school isn't going to break them.

Would like to point out that people do support the PP mission without supporting their abortion services. Bill Gates donates millions to PP every year with the stipulation that none of the money be used for abortion services.

Your reading teachers must be very disappointed.

PP only teaches what the state says they can.

You think that because 2 people get pregnant that that qualifies them to teach? Thanks for that insight.

Another reading challenged PP hater. Box has corrected you multiple times on this issue. Yet, you continue to repeat your same rant. Are you a member of that extremist church group? PP has only one definition of abstinence. They talk about others' definition of abstinence because those are things kids are hearing.

Those parents can NOT opt their children out of the sex ed classes. The only portion they can opt out of is the HIV portion. PP instructors help teach these sex ed classes FOR FREE. They don't get one red cent for this. They volunteer their time to help educate students to the true facts of their sexuality and what those students face in the real world.

Please do some research and stop repeating your embarrasing falsehoods.

can i opt my child out of health education?

No. By law you can opt out of the Aids/HIV lesson.

This is directly from Shen's website. If you continue to claim the contrary, you do so at the risk of your own embarrassment.

You must be delusional Bob if you believe that PP does this out of the 'kindness of their heart' - they receive $42 million from the federal government AND (after looking up the education law section 804) MORE grants are given to school districts for their healthcare classes.

If you believe that teaching kids 'what others think' is appropriate, then you can sign up with the Nazi Party. They spead country-wide falsehoods ...wasn't that what the kids were hearing?

It's ridiculous. You have a definition which is basterdized in the text. Fix it! Simple. But then again, that would have PP fix a mistake...and for liberals, that's far worse than anything.

You also are making the assumption that kids have heard of 'outercourse' and 'periodic abstinence'...highly doubt that. Therefore you're giving more confusing terms to a very simple word - abstinence. Stick to the last definition!!!

Really, Bob, it's really just that simple.

Fix the PP mistake, kiss and make up and go back to getting your $42 million from the feds.

That is a lie.  Planned Parenthood gets plenty of taxpayer funding.  It may not come from school taxes; there is plenty of federal, state, and local funding.

I love how you use the word "true facts"; it truly does take on a religious meaning for people like you.  Planned Parenthood's teaching on sex is the gospel to some.

Adirondack Bob, you're like a Planned Parenthood fundamentalist.  There is only one way to sexual salvation, and that is by accepting Planned Parenthood as your lord and savior. AMEN!

You ARE a member of that church group, aren't you? That's how they argue a point. They state their beliefs, what they WANT to be real and ignore all proof to the contrary.

Have you actually talked to any students who took those sex ed classes? Your assumptions of what kids have and haven't heard is beyond limited, it's uninformed, at best! My own kids, boys and girls, told me how these discussions went. The instructors, both PP's and Shen's, stated the definition of abstinence and asked the students what they believe the definition is. THAT is why those other definitions were discussed. It's called "E D U C A T I O N".

Now you've got it. One is a religious belief and, by law, should only be taught in the church. The other is the result of teenagers actual behavior, trying to prevent teen pregnancies. You know, those kinds of pregnancies that religious and right wing fanatics don't believe and social help should be provided to. You can't have it both ways.

You think because parents don't receive 40 hours of Planned Parenthood "peer" training and they haven't been certified by the state of New York to teach human sexuality, they cannot be trusted to teach their children about sex?  Thanks for the insight

The complaints the Shen parents had were that they did not have ample time to opt out (read page 1 of this thread). Also, PP has been 'suspended' from Shen for a year until further evaluation...maybe like correction of false definitions.

Some people think that abortion is a form of birth contol.
Some people think that if you're HIV positive having unprotected sex is a right.

These aren't true, but let's dicusss them because it's E D U C A T I O N ....

Some people also are unaware that 'outercourse' was a term coined for a means of contraception...but then you'd have to think independently and not simply rely upon what the PP Bible tells you.
