PP I'm sure will be back in some form maybe sooner that this fall. But honestly, are they unique in being able to teach about sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy? It's not rocket science, and I'm sure the NYS certified teacher responsible for the curriculum would be able to do it just as well.
I'd much rather have guest speakers come in and discuss the AFTERMATH of teen pregnancy and not protecting yourself against sexually transmitted diseases. Nothing works better than learning from a peer.

PP FYI Peer Education Program

PP FYI began in 2008 with a group of high school students dedicated to providing their peers with accurate sexual
health information.  The purpose of the program is to train Knoxville-area teens to become peer educators who
will in turn help other teens avoid unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) by making
healthy decisions.

The teens are required to attend 40 hours of training/skills building, complete 100 informal educational contacts
with their peers and complete a community service project.

The FYI teens accomplish the goals of the program by responding accurately to questions from their peers about
family communication, decision making, human sexuality, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, birth
control, community resources and more.  They encourage their peers to engage in healthy behaviors that avoid
teen pregnancy and STIs.

FYI is supported through private donations.

Planned Parenthood in October to stop sending the guest speakers after it received complaints about the lesson plan from a couple of dozen parents.

I love this technique.  There are only a few cases of voter fraud, there are only a couple of dozen parents complained. Any opposition to left wing indoctrination is framed as a minority opposition.

How about this - Only a few parents oppose the teaching of creationism in school.  Only a few parents oppose voluntary prayer groups in school.

Thats great... but again, its works the best if you look for people that have been effected by the end result of some these issues.

I taught the 6 hour Defensive Driving course for 9 years. Many of my classes were for "court orders", in other words, drivers, usually young, that the court system made attend. When I got to the section on DWI, I would always get the rolling of the eyes...until one class, when one person who was their age stood up and told the story about her brothers death as a result of a drunk driver...you could have heard a pin drop while she was talking..she did more to bring home the point in 2 minutes then I could have done in 6 hours.

I think it's a good idea Tbird.  Since you have experience teaching... why not start this group... Shen could sure use it this
year.

I'm sure that the shen school district....or any other....could very well retain a doctor that could talk to the 'kids' about the medical benefits/risks associated with being sexually active. After all.....this is 'health class'...............yes?

I'm not NYS certified, you don't have to be to teach a Def Driver Course...and I'm not a peer... PP could modify their existing peer program with "peers and their lessons learned" and have a real impact.

Bumble... Doctors are good at doctoring.  I'm sure a doctor could explain the idiosyncrasies of how a STD progresses
throughout the body and the destruction that they can inflict.
However,
To teach kids about STD's, abstinence, birth control, pregnancy, etc, is a different task than a doctor was
trained to do.

PP has been dealing with these problems for a long time and been doing it very successfully... and, unlike your
doctor idea, they do it for free.

One thing we know for sure, parents can't teach it.  Only those in the professional class can teach it.(40 hr. peer educator class)

Could the children of a urologist teach about sex ed and STD's to their children, or would they be unqualified since they are not a recognized by the state as an authority on the subject of STD's?  You know, because they haven't received the proper training of a 40 hour peer educator course.

That 40 hour peer educator program offered by PP far outweighs the years of medical school.

BTW...How do you measure Planned Parenthoods success?

..they are in schools promoting sexual techniques to 12 & 13 year old kids so they can be guaranteed future customers!! Basically....PP is just getting paid by the taxpayer in schools to 'advertise' their services!!! Planned Parenthood is an epic failure that is just creating a society and creating and promoting behavior that will guarantee them more business!!!

PP is in the business of preventing unwanted pregnancy, education about birth control, STD's and abstinence.

Apparently Bumble opposes their plan.  So Bumble promotes unwanted pregnancy, is against education about birth
control STD's and is against abstinence.

(I've heard that "contrary" people exist, but Bumble is the first one I've ever encountered.)

As usual in situations like this; The parents are on a holy quest, while their kids suffer the consequences of their parents
actions.

My condolences to the kids.  Hopefully the Zealots will lose this battle.

PP could have remedied this had they been more forceful when these parents were procreating.....they could have talked them in to aborting these things called kids....or at the least
parental lobotomies.....

I'm all for choice....really I am......

either way

Good point senders. Why doesn't PP tell these kids that they may not be sitting in school today if only their parents aborted them!!!! Perhaps they could also tell these kids that they are a product of 'sexual intercourse'. PP IS A JOKE AND AN EPIC FAILURE!!!!

Or PP could tell these kids to visualize their parents having sex and that will take any sexual desire away!!

Planned Parenthood has no place in education

Re Jan. 11 article, “Sex ed dispute packs meeting on Shen campus”: Planned Parenthood’s expulsion from Shenendehowa comes as no surprise. What is both appalling and surprising is that it was there in the fi rst place.
Planned Parenthood is the single largest provider of abortion, and these facilities in any neighborhood should offend all of us. Every child lost to abortion subtracts one more life, one more universe of possibilities and talent from the future of this country.
Planned Parenthood has been under investigation in cities across the nation on numerous charges, including aiding and abetting sex traffickers seeking abortions for underage girls. It’s preposterous that taxpayers are funding Planned Parenthood to the tune of nearly $500 million per year and denying hundreds of thousands of babies the right to be born.
Not only should we get Planned Parenthood out of our schools, they should be run out of our country.
