A year ago, Vincent Riggi took his usual spot in front of the podium at City Council's twice-monthly meeting and railed about his latest concern — that the city would be opening an auto body shop that wouldn't make money, and would allegedly be run by an associate of the public works director.
Fast forward to this month, and Riggi will be the one who has to listen to such criticism.
Riggi, a fixture at council meetings for the last 18 years, will now be on the governing body himself after becoming the only Alliance Party candidate to wrestle a seat away from Democrats during the last election. He will be sworn in at the city's organizational meeting Tuesday night.
The Schenectady native and self-styled government watchdog is ready to take some of his own medicine from an audience that often has less-than-cuddly feelings about city government.
"If people are upset with me, I'm willing to hear it," Riggi said about the meetings, which are shown live on cable access. "I'm not planning on shutting people out or anything like that.
