ROTTERDAM
Outgoing supervisor honored for service

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

Frank Del Gallo’s time as town supervisor might not win him any awards, but his charity as a town resident has garnered him a designation as the Rotterdam Elks’ Citizen of the Year.
The Elks chose Del Gallo for the annual award due to his effort to rebuild the kitchen in the Rotterdam Senior Center in 2010 and his work to build a large veterans’ memorial outside of Town Hall earlier this year.
Tom Osborne, the longtime chairman of the Elks’ trustees, said Del Gallo’s volunteer work on both projects, as well as others in the town, prompted his organization to recognize the outgoing supervisor during a dinner earlier this month.
“He did a terrific job on that monument,” Osborne said Tuesday.
The Elks had already selected Del Gallo for the honor when several Town Board members raised issues with how he funded the monument’s construction.
Board members questioned whether Del Gallo could donate his $13,000 salary to the project without board approval and also criticized the lack of accounting of materials that were donated to the cause.
The issue was raised during the board’s last meeting of the year, which happened to fall only a few days before the Elks were to present Del Gallo with the award.
Osborne said the flap over the monument stirred some initial concerns, but the Elks ultimately decided the issue had little to do with the overall praise they had for Del Gallo’s personal work to get the job done.
“I was amazed,” he said. “I couldn’t believe how nice it came out.”
The monument and kitchen weren’t the only projects where Del Gallo volunteered his time. The supervisor also helped the Elks’ restore their bocce courts and an old trolley they use for parades.
In each instance, Osborne said Del Gallo didn’t hesitate to lend whatever help he could provide. With all politics aside, he said Del Gallo has shown that he can make a positive impact on the community. ......................>>>>.........................>>>>...................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01001&AppName=1

It's never too late to honor this man of integrity and giving unselfishly....

The TB had no clue as to what this gentleman is all about....honesty...

Thank you Mr. Del Gallo.....you are a true humanitarian and a man with strong moral conviction.

The Town will miss you ...and the residents of Rotterdam will understand your ethics and how you could have saved the Town

unneeded expenses and brought this Town back to a fine reputation and understanding for one another.

CONGRATULATIONS TO A FINE MAN WHO WAS A GREAT LEADER.
