Police: Man prevented from jumping off bridge
By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer
Updated 04:54 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011

SCHENECTADY — City officers were able to prevent a mentally disturbed man from leaping off the Front Street train trestle bridge into the frigid Mohawk River, according to a city police spokesman.

The man, whom police have not identified, called emergency dispatch around 3:50 p.m. Monday threatening to jump off the bridge into the waterway, police said.

Once officers arrived, they were able to talk him off the bridge and he was taken to Ellis Hospital for evaluation. The incident, which occurred near the Front Street pool in the city's Stockade neighborhood, lasted about 40 minutes. During that time, a boat was launched into the Mohawk. The city fire department and Scotia Police also responded.

The guy realized he can't get a job, but the mayor is collecting his state pension and salary.  You do have to show mental toughness to accept that, then get up and go to work the next day knowing the fruits of your labor is paying this slob.

Staff report
Updated 08:48 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011

SCHENECTADY — City police say a mentally disturbed man who threatened to harm himself by jumping off the Front Street trestle bridge into the Mohawk River Monday may have been a distraught member of the Occupy Albany group.

Lt. Mark McCracken, a department spokesman, said officers were able to prevent the 19-year-old man from jumping and he was transported to Ellis Hospital where he was to undergo mental evaluation.

McCracken said officers were told by a third party that the man, who police have not identified, had most recently been involved in the Occupy Albany movement. Personally, I think the administrator should remove this thread ---  clearly the man is mentally distraught/ill and  hopefully is now getting some help.    To make this incident a political issue  -- which some of the loutish members of this site have already done -- pretty much highlights their moral depravity and lack of common decency.

Should the TimesUnion, CBS and WNYT remove their news story also?

It's here for discussion, if you don't like it, move on.
