The big question now is whether the Canonization Ceremonies will take place in the Vatican City or in North America.

Auriesville Shrine is located near Blessed Kateri's birthplace and place of Baptism.   Her place of death and place of burial are in Canada.   Pope Benedict XVI is already planning a trip to North America during 2012 -- which will include stops in Cuba and Mexico ................. it would be AWESOME if he could add the Mohawk Valley to his itinerary.

Canonization  is the act by which a Christian church declares a deceased person to be a saint, upon which declaration
the person is included in the canon, or list, of recognized saints. Originally, individuals were recognized as saints without
any formal process. The process is most commonly used in, although not limited to, the Catholic Church.
Canonization, whether formal or informal, does not make someone a saint: it is only a declaration that the person is a saint
and was a saint even before canonization.

So you're not a saint officially, until your canonized, but once canonized, you are deemed to have always been a saint.
Canonization gives you what you already had...

Read today's Carl Strock on this issue.
Apparently there is quite a bit of "creative embellishment" to this Magic Miracle!
It appears that this boy was being treated by doctors with several surgeries and  antibiotics to treat the infection.  The rate of
cure is around 75%... and some people who are not treated will recover.

Hardly a miracle when the patient has a 75% chance of a "miraculous" cure with out any prayer.

This miracle business is like a promotion of Walmart or Target... Our brand (of religion) is better than theirs...
WE HAVE MIRACLES!  GET YOURS TODAY!!!

Beliefs are in the minds of those who practice what they choose.....it is not necessary to have all this chatter about something

that we do or don't believe in....don't know very much about "magic" but do believe in "miracles"...and that is my right and

no one should criticize or chastize me for it.....

People pray to all Gods of their choice....God understands all....why can't we????......that's not a reality these days...

Technically - you become a  "saint"  (sanctified, holy) when you are Baptized   -- Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Angligan/Episcopalians and Orthodox Catholics all believe in the "Communion of Saints" ... which is something that ALL  Baptized Believers - past, present and future  belong to/are a part of.

And yes -- the Canonization is the point when the Roman Catholic  (or Orthodox Catholic) Church formally adds a holy person to the Canon or list of saints worthy of veneration.

People may pray to "all gods"  but there is only ONE TRUE GOD  that is worthy of our worship and belief.  I don't buy the relativist view that all belief systems are equal --- it is obvious that they are not.

Bottomline -- It is a great accomplishment that a young woman who was born in the Mohawk Valley is being so greatly honored by the Roman Catholic Church for her faith and the great influence her faith has had and is still having to this day.  One doesn't even have to be a Catholic to at least recognize that this is a truly great honor and that she can be a very special role model for young people.

DVOR, Do you find even a little bit of arrogance that YOU worship the "One True God"...
the only one Worthy Of Our Worship...?

Could it be possible that most other religions feel the same way about their "One True God"?
And you are as accurate as they are???

YOU are right... the rest of the world is WRONG!

Could you even consider that the "ONE TRUE GOD" made himself known to a various people in a variety of
manifestations?
That YOUR One True God, may also encompass many other religions, just in a different format?

History is full of people killing their fellow man in an attempt to bring them to "THE ONE TRUE GOD" as they saw it.
How are you any different?
Really??? Don't you see the arrogance of your statement?  You are free to believe what ever you may, but professing
that you have rights to the ONE TRUE GOD, is as laughable as when a Muslim, a Jew or a Hindu makes the same
statement.  You would fit in nicely beside the Muslim who declare to the world, "there is only one god(Allah)and
Mohamed is his prophet".

the church cannot make a person anything more than the creator made them......

I'm a saint too

now DVOR get down and give me 100....oh wait...let me step on your back...if you can do 100 with me standing on your back you might be a saint

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I am not the only person who believes in the ONE TRUE GOD ---  All Christians do , All Jews do and All Muslims do.    And I have never said that I have the "rights" to the ONE TRUE GOD --- because NO ONE has the "rights" to GOD ...    and to anticipate your next question ...  Yes,  I do believe that the FULLNESS of grace and understanding of God is found IN the Roman Catholic Church.

Oh -- and I won't apologize for not playing your game and being a politically correct relativist.

Praise be to Strock for telling it like it is

I feel compelled to write for two reasons: one, the whiny letters complaining about Carl Strock’s “bigotry” in his
insightful comments regarding religion in this country; and two, the Dec. 28 article about Orthodox Jewry in Israel
[“Israeli girl’s plight highlights ultra-Orthodox extremism”].
Bigotry is defined as “intolerant attachment to a particular creed, opinion, practice, etc.” I saw nothing in either of
Mr. Strock’s columns that did that. Rather, he was asking that we suspend superstition for the cold, hard facts
of people working hard to accomplish a task. Kateri had nothing, nothing to do with that boy’s regained health.
A dedicated, hard-working team of doctors did.

Clearly, it makes no difference to which religion you ascribe if you are a fringe fanatic: Muslim extremists,
Jewish ultra-Orthodox, or right-wing American Christians all suffer from the same affliction. Absolute and
complete conviction that they are right, coupled with the need to convert (forcibly or otherwise) any who
aren’t “true believers.” Thank your personal organizer of the universe that the Revolutionary generation
separated church and state (and despite the rantings of several, that generation was, by no means,
devout. I suspect if they were, they wouldn’t have separated them).

Just because the candidates (of both parties) are gutless wonders and can’t bring themselves to tell the Christian
right that it’s out of bounds, or prosecute Catholic priests and their enablers to the full extent of the law, doesn’t
mean the free press (read columnists) shouldn’t put their feet to the fire.
The sooner we get God out of the public discussion, the sooner we’ll get real people solving the problems of real
people. When it’s considered a good idea to have Mr. [GOP presidential candidate Gov. Rick] Perry lead a prayer
meeting to save the country, or have the mayor of Atlanta on the steps of the statehouse praying for rain because
the city council couldn’t do actual urban planning, well, we’ve forgotten our history. Divine intervention is
unpredictable at best.
I’d like to thank Mr. Strock for the guts to “tell it like it is.” A magic man or woman — whatever — in the sky is no
substitute for committed people coming together in the spirit of compromise to solve human problems.
Herbert K. Spencer
Schoharie

The relevant section to the Christians on this board is below:

There is only ONE religion founded and started by God, through Jesus Christ. The rest are man's interpretation (Luther, Calvin, Smith, etc).  Judaism was  fulfilled by Catholicism by Jesus Christ..

Your words support my above post:

Absolute and complete conviction that they are right,
And:
Bigotry is defined as “intolerant attachment to a particular creed, opinion, practice, etc.”

Your post is precisely  what Mr Spencer was referring to...
I know what is right and you don't...
and ...
an intolerance to any other view.

I never said I was intolerant of other views - in fact I've spent 3 years studying other religions and consider myself quite tolerant and awed by their beliefs.

What I don't appreciate, and will defend, is your, and others continual bashing of OUR religion.  You may not agree with it, and that's 100% fine with me, but don't tell me what I can and can't believe.

I once read that 5% of terminal cancers go into remission and cure by themselves. Doctors know that it happens
but have no explanation as to why.
If you need a "miracle", just pray for all cancer victims, and in 5% of cases, you will have a certified authentic 100%
saint inspired "miracle".

I have no problem with anyone's religion, or lack of religion.  Most religions do some good in spite of the evil they
also promote.

Your post...
