This thread should be used to promote those businesses not being proped up by the Metroplex.  To keep this organized, please use the following format.  I will maintain the list.  Additions provided by anyone with a board reputation score less than 50% will be ignored.  I am sure this will take some work and I am sure that DVOR, Scottsdog08, Smoing Bananas and Hamburg will do there best to stop this.  It will take all our efforts to endorse these people. Some might mistakenly be listed here, if you know it is an error, please provide details as to when they received a handout.  I think that plain jane facade grants should be the only exception.  Let me know your thoughts.

Please use the following format when providing a listing

Comapny Name - Address, # and Street and City - Phone number - Brief listing of what product or services they offer - Years in business if known

I will maintain the list and repost from time to time.  More if you know who tries to derail things.   Lets get some momentum here for these left out businesses.

DV can't handle being in a minority of ONE, so he creates additional "users" to try to prop himself up.   He can't stand on his own two feet, he needs imaginary playmates to help him

Good start. I understand.  Many of us work or post from our phones making this hard.  We can fill in the details over time I will add the details later.  Board members, again, we will need your help.  If you know if any of the ones we post/list are "offenders" then let us know why you think so and I will remove them from the list.  Again, those who received only facade grants should not be excluded since these are usually small amounts and well worth the upgrade.

Heres a start.

Can this be listed with an 'instead of' column?

example

Non Metroplex ---------- Instead of
Scotia Cinimas              Bow Tie Cinimas
Napoli Bakery                Villa Italia

Just a thought.

I hear you.  Thought about it but don't want to aid the Metroplex pumping people.  I went back and forth with it.  You have any Pros and Cons I'm not seeing?

If we listed the Metroplex businesses under the 'instead of' column with the total taxpayer benefit the business received, it might open people’s eyes to the unfair advantage they have over other non-Metroplex businesses in Schenectady County..  Take Villa Italia for example.  If we listed the millions they received in 0% interest taxpayer backed loans and direct grants, along with the thousands they received in property tax exemptions, people may actually begin to see the unfairness.  Putting the non-metroplex businesses property tax bill might be a nice touch also, to show how uneven the playing field is when their competitors is paying a fraction of the assessed value.

Villa Italia was able to open a brand new energy efficient building with state of the art equipment on the taxpayer’s dime, and we have neighborhood bakeries trying start a bootstrap business with their own money, buying used equipment, an leasing or buying older buildings, and paying fully assessed property taxes.

I think the comparison should be made as stark as possible.

opps. better eliminate katbird -- they got a facade grant from DSIC,, otherwise known as metrograft./. fat morris and death ray

The DSIC also awarded a $25,000 facade grant to Kathy Fitzmaurice for her store, the Katbird Shop at 425 Liberty St., and a $2,000 facade grant to Marcel LaJoy to repair his building at 156-158 Barrett St. They will each provide matching funds.

I totally agree with you.  The problem is that there isnt a very good source to get all the numbers for the deal.  Some examples of where the numbers arent clear or are not public is the The Transfinder deal and 440 State.  The new Triple AAA deal.  Some of the old grant new grant.  Rehab.  The city also has a habit of switching names.  There are county owned buildings that are leased.  The leases arent public and the paper has a great way of spinning things.  I am sure you understand.  A council member could probably get the whole file but the average joe will have to FOIL for it and you know how they play stupid and only give you parts of it or take 6 months.  Facade grants though are pretty transparent however.

What do you think about adding a spot for Owner lives in Schenectady County......

PS.   Interesting thing I learned about Transfinder is that one of their competitors who appears to be a little larger that them is in the Latham area.
