I offer up the following 2 subjects for our debating dialogue. I speak to the constant generalties of these 2 subjects by the Pols. #1 in regard to the neighborhoods. During the Mayoral race Mr. McCarthy refered to this statement a few times. But what does this really mean. The specifics please. To be fair I'm sure Mr. Hull had his version of the same statement, so I am not picking on GMcC. Does it mean new curbs, sidewalks, roads? Continued massive code enforcement sweeps? All this is well and good but if the underlying problem is, in some peoples eyes, to remove/displace the perception of human blight that occupies these hoods, how does one accomplish that. There are laws preventing such uprooting of people merely based on a prejudicial assessment. Be it race or economic station in life. And if they were displaced where do they go? Only on to another area with the same impact there. Everyone has to live somewhere. Let me be clear I do not advocate such a solution such as this, but to merely bring out some facts and to ask questions. How does one go about changing the face of a neighborhood? I recall some years back the Vale neighborhood was adorned with new infrastructure, curbs, sidewalks and the like. Has the populace there enriched that area after such improvments, have house values increased? I do not know as I do not live there or know anyone that does. A study of the infrastructure improvments and how it relates to a better quality of life would be an intersting find. So basically what I am asking is will all these cosmetic improvments change the perception of a given neighborhood for the good, or will such improvments only result in the oft quoted"lipstick on a pig" syndrome. Onto #2. Every time I hear the Pols. sound off on job creation one never hears the TYPE/SPECIFICS of said subject. Nothing of manufacturing positions with a livable wage where one need'nt rely on a gov't handout (food stamps, Utility bill pyt. asst. etc.) Jobs where one can still have a shot at whats left of the "American Dream". I just wish the Pols. would be more specific when they talk of job creation not the generalties/rhetoric of a sound bite for the news/re-election campaign. I trust a serious dialogue will be forthcoming by all contributors. |

changing the face of a neighborhood starts with very close personal leadership....not crumb tossing....and quik respectful response to crime and language of personal respect and responsibility kept in the open...
"the city will improve this neighborhood with sidewalks and curbs etc. and those that live here should respect their environment. No respect for your space means no one will respect you."
LEADERS NEED TO TALK LIKE THIS....STOP THE POLITICALLY CORRECT LANGUAGE AND SPEAK TRUTH.... |

The DEM morons have been making noises about neighborhood issues for years and doing absolutely nothing. They flushed everything on 2 blocks Downtown. They don't have money to hire any additional animal control officers or knock down one of the 800 abandoned City properties. Then they wonder why the median resale price in the City has crashed under $100,000. The County is now concerned! The City is looking pathetic. Look for another nit wit plan. Everything except increasing the City cut of sales tax revenues. That might actually lessen the agony of DEM spending plans. |

the problem is the language......tossing a crumb here and there does NOTHING to lead a people.....our neighborhoods are segregated, even if we refuse to use the proper language and gloss over it..... time to call a criminal what it is call a neighborhood what it is call a 'tagger' what it is stop with the political correctness and we will see a truth.....same with the street lingo.....getting 'shagged'? really? where are their leaders? that is what you call scum......yup! I said it...SCUM.. STREET SCUM......not what the elected call "oh poor poor you" 'you pathetic creature' 'I have a sidewalk to nowhere for you'...blah blah blah......... |

The talk is just rhetoric to buy more time....to get reelected. If it were genuine then it would be a publicized plan. Steps, goals. Instead they talk one thing (need to reduce the number of housing units) then do another (new units at ALCO and Union/Barett). |
