The Rev is very concerned about somebody running the sewer plant making a profit but ignores the fact that the city employees will cost a lot more than a private company making a little profit due to pensions. salaries, and benefits.

This is why socialism fails....You eventually run out of other peoples money to spend

The city is also trying to plug holes in its budgets (Profit).  This move if successful in saving money will only prop up those places where we continue to waste.

The Reverend is shortsighted on the long ache on the taxpayers backs.....I wonder if the Reverend can find the 'ladder to heaven' or is it too far?

Every contracted service transfers public money into private hands. Typically it means workers are paid less, with few or no benefits, so the contractor can make a profi t.

Confirming that making a profit is a bad thing

Um, no Rev. Ackerm. If you believe that the Schenectady City government is not doing this for profit, but as a "civic motive to strengthen the common good," you have been sadly misguided.

It's always easier to spend money when you don't have to contribute to the kitty.

The Reverend doesn't like business for profit, but has no problem earning a living peddling fairy tails promising salvation. At least the capitalists are peddling a product you can use.  The fact the reverend injected herself into a political discussion is more proof she's a snake oil saleswomen.

The good reverend needs to stand by the pulpit and out of the taxpayer's pockets! She clearly doesn't know how the taxpayers are struggling. Misguided at best. The good reverend appears to be like the city government by disregarding the overburdened taxpayers.

But don't forget to leave a donation during church services....k?

Residents to track sewage plant smell
Contractor did better job than city, neighbors say

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Mayor-elect Gary McCarthy intends to keep a close eye — and nose — on the city’s odor problem at the sewage treatment plant.
Some neighbors near the plant on Anthony Street in the Northside neighborhood say they were hit by regular odors from the plant when the city ran it decades ago. Under a contractor, Veolia, odors persisted but were not as frequent, residents said.
They fear the smell might get worse again as the city takes control of the plant on Jan. 1.
To deal with the issue, McCarthy hopes to track the odors and eliminate problems through the noses of those who live and work nearby.
He is starting a new odor committee, replacing the informal group run by Veolia.
The new committee will meet regularly, once a month or once a quarter, and produce reports tracking the odor.
He has started recruiting business owners and hopes to set up the committee soon.
“To have tracking — since I’ve been on the council, I’ve never seen a report,” he said.
He also intends to eliminate composting at the plant, which he said is likely the cause of the odor that wafts across the neighborhood intermittently.
“As we move away from the composting to other technologies, it’s going to be a much more enclosed environment,” McCarthy said.
But that won’t happen for two to three years, he added. It’s too expensive for the city to do it alone.
He’s hoping to partner with other municipalities to cover some of the cost by handling their waste. ................>>>>....................>>>>..................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00901&AppName=1

Partnering with other municipalities appears to mean that we will be in the processing business also.  "Handling their waste" .  More expansion to come......

EXACTLY.........all things that should have been investigated before deciding to pull the plug.  Easy when its other peoples money and you have a pension income to pay your realestate taxes.

The City will cover the difference by taking in more town waste-creating more odors! Maybe they can occupy the s*** plant? Your working together crew in action. No plan, no way to contain odor, screw the neighborhood and first and foremost create 22 more public jobs with fat pensions. Keep the implosion going and pass the nose plugs! Smells like City Hall.

And the folks that actually accept the invitation to be on this 'super odor committee' is just as lame! OMG!!
