Good liberal spin smokey!

Hey.....not only is Gary McCarthy intentionally double dipping...........he has given out raises that will cost the taxpayers even MORE!!! He is clearly following in the same footsteps as stratton when he so humbly tried to give himself a raise!!!

Guess the fruit don't fall far from the tree, eh??

Nothing unusual here. Every election is marred by hand grenades present at the polls. No big deal-unplugging the scanners and moving them outside. Happens all the time. In third world nations. Welcome to Panama City-North.

The wife was getting her hair cut today and overheard people talking about the city of schenectady. They were referring it to as a 'slum'!!! And they were referring to the 'entire city'.

The conversation came up when someone brought up Gary McCarthy giving raises and his double dipping!! They said that schenectady is like a third world country where the citizens live in squaller and the politicos live like kings and queens!! And the amusing part is that these folks do not live in schenectady county!!

Hull off base criticizing McCarthy’s pension

As a previous homeowner in the city of Schenectady for over 30 years, it was refreshing to watch Roger Hull become the most engaged president of Union College with regard to relations with the city in modern times. His leadership rejuvenating Union’s neighborhoods and co-founding Schenectady 2000 is a testament to his vision and hard work.
His recent foray into local politics, however, reveals a darker side to his public persona. His Dec. 18 Viewpoint, “McCarthy games the system to give himself 50 percent raise,” was nothing less than a diatribe against his political opponent driven by sour grapes.
Mr. [Mayor-elect Gary] McCarthy did not give himself a raise, but decided to retire from his job and collect a pension that he earned. Mr. Hull does not stop at that personal level but continues to lay blame for New York state’s political morass at the feet of fi remen, policemen and convicted ex-school janitors. He even questions the local judge who denied a recount to the mayoral election after he had multiple lawyers, which was his right, spending weeks validating ballots. As a Yale Law School graduate, you would think Mr. Hull would better understand election law.
I urge Mr. Hull to continue with his political career in hopes that his perspective concerning our political problems might become clearer when he finally comes down from his ivory tower.

They all stick together no matter what.....the city is slum/scum.....it's been happening in Rotterdam....and will continue

because no one can do anything nor wants to....the very fact that Paolino is coming to Rotterdam is an example of how

they play the "dance" card.    all for me is the theme.....

Too bad and so sad.....politics has become evil and corruption at its best....Welcome to the satillate of TROY>...

Unbiased investigation....where do you get that here in Schenectady County....when everyone is related to everyone...

wow....politics does make strange bedfellows....and that is a fact.

HE EARNED A PENSION THAT THE ELBOW RUBBING LEADERS/PLANNERS KEEP INSISTING THE STATE/COUNTY/CITY/TOWN KEEPS PUSHING TO KEEP VOTES COMING TO THEM.....

Mr. Delorenzo is 1/2 right.....

the other half is that there are no leaders with the balls big enough to stop the run away freight train of so called 'earned' pensions.....the leaders become lobbyists to themselves

I hear ya.  This is a minor issue compared to what we got coming.  If the state and feds ever try to pry the city away from the teat......  house of cards.   This is similar to the GM situation.  Big shiny buildings.  Center City, Proctors, Foster TajGarage......bleeding financially.  Not too big to fail though....

Hull lost, he shouldn’t whine about McCarthy

Re Roger Hull’s Dec. 18 opinion piece, “McCarthy games the system to give himself a 50 percent raise”: Men do not whine. When you freely enter a contest whose rules are clear to all, and you lose, that should be the end of the matter.
If you read the paper on a regular basis, you understand the behavior rules under which elections are conducted. To complain about your opponent conducting himself by the traditions that have been found generally acceptable is to take up the time of those who thought you might have something worth reading.
As for double-dipping being wrong, you are making an issue about [Mayor-elect Gary] McCarthy following the rules. While we can’t have a world where people pick and choose what laws they are going to follow, we shouldn’t fault those who do follow the law. If the law is wrong, you should put your energy into changing it — not faulting people who are doing what is legal.
As for leadership, have you suggested that nonprofits pay a fee for fi re and police protection? What about lowering the city’s cost of law enforcement by not enforcing drug laws?
Having the state and federal government assume this cost would be good for the city.
Leadership involves something more than whining. It involves convincing people that they follow you to the “promised land.”

Fred Barney.......Albany........might want to read the laws and rulebooks about commissioner of deeds.  Another guy who knows only part of the story and then shoots his mouth off.

Fred, sell your property and move on down to the future "promised land".

People who are "accustomed" and feel entitled are attracted to promises and dreams and change.  That is why they voted for.McCarthy.  Sheeple.  Problem is McCarthy made promises he can't keep.  Now Fred go do your homework before you write another stupid article.

Both people defending McCarthy DO NOT LIVE IN THE CITY....hum, a little telling.

Ask a City homeowner if they appreciate living in the 'slums' and have a ruling King-pin double-dip. Guess it's always easier to point from afar and state how great someone is when you don't have to live under their 'conditions'.

McCarthy has no clue how to help Schenectady homeowners, he has no idea how to lead and his not-yet illegal actions prove that he knows how to play the system better than the scum who rip off social services every day for crack money.

There is NO ONE who EVER listens to the residents/taxpayers. And why? Because they are in the minority. The majority ofschenectady resides in line on Broadway at the DSS building. And that is a created society and the plan made by the liberal socialist dems years ago!! And as we can all see.......it's working out just fine for them!

If only voters had known about Gary McCarthy’s pension before Nov. 8

Re Bruce Trachtenberg’s Dec. 16 letter, “McCarthy entitled to his pension and salary”: Many years ago, someone asked me, “why is it that the voters learn about the candidates after they are elected? Schenectadians have good reason to ask that same question.
If citizens knew that Gary McCarthy had padded his pension, he would have lost by a thousand votes. Voters understand when they are being ripped off.
Until three years ago, Mr. McCarthy was a single man. He needed a job to support himself, so he worked for No. 1 — namely Gary. That has been evident since Brian Stratton vacated the mayoral offi ce.
From April to the present, puppeteer McCarthy has controlled everything in Schenectady — Open Stage Media, the acting mayor’s seat, a City Council position and an investigative job. How does that translate into working for Schenectady County’s citizens, as Mr. Trachtenberg alleges?
Padding pensions may be legal, but it speaks volumes about the moral compass of those who do it. The Triborough Amendment and constitutional protections for pensions must be changed. If citizens can change the U.S. Constitution, it certainly is in their best interests to change New York state’s constitution.
But as long as people who work in the public sector are elected to office, they will not work to change the law. Public sector officeholders are ladled the same rich gravy that the unions pour on all their members. It’s a conflict of interest.
Roger Hull was an outstanding mayoral candidate. His credentials were acquired on merit, and not by back-room deals or political cronyism.
Fellow citizens, in the years to come, be prepared for a bumpy road and runaway spending. No city deserves such a curse.

He EARNED the pension and he was duly elected Mayor -- I don't see anything wrong with collecting his pension and receiving a salary for a job one is doing.   Others do it who worked in the private sector -- and then retire and run for political office.  BOTTOMLINE --- he EARNED the pension and he WILL EARN his salary .. case closed ... lets move on and discuss some REAL issues.
