I think I saw a news article somewhere that said a Hannaford in the upstate area was converting to a single line queue. (Maybe it was PC but I thin it was Hannaford)
Burlington Coat Factory has a single que line -- and at one time the LL Bean store in Maine did, too. I don'thave a problem with a single cue line --- I do object to "self check out lanes" though.

I don't mind the single line que at the credit union, etc. but it is very annoying at the supermarket. Try it and see what you think. I also don't mind waiting at the market if I go there at peak times with a full cart, as long as they have enough lines open so that they are moving along reasonably well and it isn't getting annoyingly crowded. Yes, I said annoying twice but since I don't really like crowds I like to plan accordingly so I don't care for it when a lack of foresight or cheapness by the store thwarts my plans. Maybe because I'm handing over a lot of money I don't like to sufferto do so.
There really is no problem with single line ques --- if anything they make it a bit more organized. As long as the stores don't force people to use the "self check out lanes" -- which I refuse to use because #1) I can't see taking a job away from a check out clerk and #2) inevitably at least one item won't scan properly and one has to wait for a clerk to come over and manually enter the information anyway.

A brand new four plus star hotel had a few people cutting their grass - large areas of it... With handheld grass pruning shears. You know - scissors essentially.
This was not the slums... The hotel had a number of cars - some of them quite nice. But they paid people to cut with hand shears instead of using a lawnmower.

Sounds like a great way to keep the Tea-Partiers busy .. make them cut grass with scissors.
