Therapists help transgender patients with psychological issues

"Are you a man or a woman?"

It seems like a simple question, with an obvious and clear-cut answer.

But for psychotherapists Moonhawk River Stone, of Schenectady, and Arlene Istar Lev, of Albany, complicated responses are at the core of their private practices in transgender care.

The way a person answers the question, ranging from certitude to confusion, holds the key to treatment options.

Both therapists view gender with a wider lens than a binary classification of either male or female. Rather than dealing with black and white distinctions, they work with clients who express themselves in many shades of gray when it comes to gender.

In addition, as part of a newly emerging trend, the therapists are seeing youths at ever-younger ages who have a disconnect between their biological sex and the gender they feel compelled to express.

MobileTerminal has had these issues for years -- when he is particularly drunk and/or hopped up on drugs he/she dresses up like a drag queen ( one of the few times he/she is out of his/her klan outfit) and plays "house" with GrahamBonnet and JoeBoxer.

Ron, it doesn't surprise me that you were the first to reply to a thread on "transgender" - when it hit this site, your eyes probably lit up like Christmas trees and you got that funny tingle down your legs, ala Chris Matthews, didn't ya?

A very queer tingle came over him, most people would agree...

The twinkle in his eyes really scared his gerbil, who has gone missing!!!

And if you honestly want to know, Jesus Christ (the namesake for the holiday, if you didn't know), wasn't even born at Christmastime.  Something I was just reading recently stated that it was most likely some time in the spring, probably closer to the time of when we celebrate Easter.  One point for this is that during December, the shepards of the region would not have had their flocks out in the fields at this time of year.

This just happens to be the time that we celebrate.  I don't know if there's any information anywhere that can be found to determine the actual DOB.
