Ex-boyfriend sentenced in hit man case

SCHENECTADY — After rejecting a request by Alexei Ramey to withdraw his guilty plea on Friday, a judge promptly sentenced the Russian immigrant to nine years behind bars for a failed bid to hire a hit man to stab his pregnant girlfriend to abort the fetus so he could avoiding paying child support.
In June, Ramey, 22, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree assault in the bizarre case, in which Ramey was accused of agreeing to pay an undercover detective posing as a hit man $500, along with a pressure washer, for the attack. He subsequently sought to take back the guilty plea.
The prosecutor said Ramey wanted the pregnancy ended because he had a new girlfriend who was also pregnant. They later had a child who was born around the same time as his ex-girlfriend's child.
