SARATOGA SPRINGS
Empire set to take over EMS duties For-profit ambulance to replace longtime nonprofit

BY LEE COLEMAN Gazette Reporter

Empire Ambulance Service is expected to take over the Saratoga Emergency Medical Services operation, ending more than 40 years of service by the nonprofi t ambulance corps.
Empire Ambulance, which is based in Cohoes and serves a number of communities from Albany to Warren County, is a for-profi t company.
Clark Hayward, president of Saratoga Emergency Medical Services, said the nonprofi t ambulance service has been losing money in recent years.
“We have had continued fi nancial struggles,” Hayward said.
He said the organization lost about $55,000 in 2010 and expects to be that much in the red again this year.
He said the number of calls the ambulance service answers is increasing, expenses are increasing, but reimbursements are declining.
Medicaid and Medicare and many private medical insurance reimbursements for ambulance services have declined in recent years, he said. Changes in national health care laws have also hurt the ambulance service.
He said SEMA takes in between $1.2 million and $1.3 million each year but this money “goes right back out” in personnel services and equipment.
“We have zero surplus,” Hayward said. ...........................>>>>................................>>>>...............................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00901&AppName=1

Hayward/SEMA needs to talk to Phillip Morris or Proctors who loses way than $55,000 per year but continues to rake in the dough.

If that doesn't work then they could talk to Shove It In McCarthy who could help the City of Saratoga implement the revolutionary EMS surcharge. If that doesn't work, I bet McCarthy could show him how moving the whole operation out of Saratoga would provide cheaper service like he is doing with the satellite police station in the hill.  No nbout response times.  It's only peoples lives we are dealing with.
