In Schenectady, they’re brazen enough to run reds in broad daylight

Re Nov. 18 article, “Arrest made in fatal city hit-and-run”: Since I am now retired, I often spend a few hours in the afternoon viewing a movie, either at Bow Tie Cinema or Proctors. I did just that the other day, and must say I was a bit frightened by what took place while I was attempting to cross State Street.
I was in the pedestrian area and pushed the button, awaiting the light to change. I am not colorblind, and I am not elderly. Nor do I have a vision problem. The light changed, and as I stood on the curb, one car made it through just before the light turned red. I proceeded to step down and make my way to cross the street and another vehicle definitely went through the red light. The driver saw me as I motioned to him by pointing to the red light. He then rolled down his window and shouted something back at me which was most likely something crass and putting the blame on me.
I was where I should have been and not breaking a law such as he did. Keep in mind that it was 2:55 p.m., and I was in the proper crosswalk.
As I was returning home, I had the radio on and heard about the fatal car accident from the day before that occurred just a block or two away. My condolences go out to the victim’s family that now has to go through this time of sorrow. And, yes, the thought did go through my mind that it could have been me.
Needless to say I was taken aback by that event, and I many not be going downtown to the movies or any activity as often as I did before.
I see people downtown crossing the street recklessly. Please do not take a chance. Obey the lights and cross in the crosswalks. The life you save may be yours!

Remember this.......the police are changing shifts at that time....most have already headed back to the

station....and what happened to you has happened to me many times....right here in Rotterdam

either in my car or walking in a public parking lot.....No one cares about the other anymore....people

running late is the norm...and when you confront them......they never think they are wrong and those

famous words come out of their mouths......Shameful...sad, and true..  and the criminal gets all the media

attention, while the victim is ignored...

God bless the family of the hit and run victim......

Running of red lights, right turn on red at intersections that say you can't and even if it doesn't and the pedestrian has the right of way the drivers ignore it here is the norm.  You get a good dose of the difference whenever you travel outside the city.

The right turn on red I believe is the most dangerous the pedestrian cannot see behind them.

This is blatantly being allowed and ignored by our PD.

It is a product of having so many transplants from the city and no one can change my mind on that.

DUDE     in Arizona.....the pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way.....and most of the time

the drivers honor this law......if you say you are from UPSTATE NY people are nice to you....if you don't

bother and say NEW YORK ...well courtesy is not on their mindset......

So, in Schenectady and ROTTERDAM....it is dangerous to try to cross any street without putting yourself in
danger...

SO BOOB....chill out.....untruths will be your demise...

It's too negative to say Downtown drivers should observe traffic lights? Downtown is unsafe and drivers are only one problem. Armed criminals and gangs are another. This fine lady should avoid Bow Tie like the plague. Like the vast majority do. You can't put lipstick on a pig. Shocked that the Gazetto would print such unvarnished truth which goes against their rose colored glasses propaganda.
