The CHRISTMAS PARADE was held on Saturdays during my childhood....and was something to look forward
to

and that Christmas and Santa were just around the corner....yes, the PEANUT MAN was always outside on

that corner...Woolworth's across the street, shoe store next door to Planter's, Wallace's , the cafeteria near

there in the cellar....great mac and cheese, Kresge's with their great hot dogs and the coldest root beer in

glass jugs....Carl's, Musler's Van Curler Music Store, D'Jima's Furriers near St. Joseph's church....

Those were the days....simple  and non threatening....childhood was great and innocent. and

TRADITION at its best.

Quoted from 1954
A SIDE NOTE TO THE RESOUNDING SUCCESS OF MR. MORRIS AND THE LOVELY PARADE: THE NAYBOOBS AND NAYSAYERS SHOULD BE ROUNDED UP, FLATTENED WITH STEAM-ROLLERS --- AND USED AS CARPETING FOR THE LEADERS OF THE CITY AND COUNTY TO WALK OVER AS THEY MARCH IN THE PARADE!

Awww., poor little mama's boy, trying to suck up to the fat man being paid with taxpayer subsidy, hoping fat Morris gives him a handout to see all the shows at Proctors because his two mommies won't pay for tickets, and he won't get a job to support himself.   And still again, mama's boy is cheering for all how the financially struggling homeonwers are robbed by being FORCED, via threat of seizure of their homes, to pay the property and school taxes of the millionaires downtown

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

One of my favorite stores was Richardson's .. which was somewhere between the old Schenectady Savings Bank and St. Joseph's Church -- it sold luggage and umbrellas and wallets and other items --- but what I remember most is that they still were selling the  HUGE old-fashioned  "steamer trunks" in the late 1960's and early 1970's ..... and as a kid I couldn't help but thinking it would be cool to pack up a huge trunk like that and travel all around the world.

Lest we forget Modern Shoe on Jay St., Fanny Farmer Candy on State St., Snappy Mens Store on State St. Apex Music Store( at the DOT bldg. corner) where you could sample the 45 before buying it at the booths with the headsets), Goldstocks Sporting Goods, Stewarts Paint Store that used to sell XMAS toys (got my first Lionel train set there $12.50)

They really had retail stores downtown where people could go, shop, spend money and make a day of it?

Whoida thunk it

The reason that Schenectady was so great back then --- there were no Nayboobs ---  Republicans and Democrats loved their hometown and worked together to make it a great place.    Thank God that the Democrats in Schenectady County have recaptured that spirit of working together and caring for the community.

Again you have been reported to #attackwatch.

By using the term 'God', you have offended the athiests.

This shows even more of your intolerance to people different than you

As usual DVR has it backwards. Back in the day, there was an actual a two party system. You had fiscally Conservative DEMS interested in helping everyone not just feathering their own nests. Democrats like the great former Mayor and Congressman Sam Stratton and former Councilman, now Saratoga County resident, Dave Roberts. When DEMS say working together they really mean taking your property through over taxation. While lowering assessments on the DEM friends and family club.

I knew BOTH Sam Stratton and Dave Roberts quite well --- and admired them both.

WORKING TOGETHER WORKS.

Talked to Dave Roberts. He is disgusted with the current crop of DEM "leaders". He said he was glad he left Schenectady County when he did. When he could sell his home for a profit. Working together is code for picking the taxpayer carcasses clean.

He couldn't stand the heat -- so he ran off to the easy life in Saratoga County.

Confirming that you don't care and are an intolerant, hate filled, biggot against people that don't celebrate Christmas, children with peanut alergies, and athiests.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
