I recall marching with Mohon band in Xmas parade, starting at top of STATE ST and ending at ERIE BLVD or donw by the Scotia bridge. This was never an issue on day after Turkey day because BF was not that big a deal back then.  As for crowds, I remember the sidewalks were packed on both sides the entire distance of the parade.

Just found article in Gazette dated NOV 24, 1990 that this would be the 21st Annual Christmas Parade, so that would support the 1969 date....but I think it is wrong because I graduated in '66 and was in the parades when in High School.  Maybe 1969 was first GAZETTE Christmas Parade and prior to that there was no tie to any store, group or other.

On my way home lastnight from the parade, there was a streetsweeper going down Wendell at 7pm with a full size dumptruck trailing behind it.  Can anyone tell me why this would be a necessary "operation" to be undertaking at that hour on a Friday night?

The clean water regs make streetsweeping a practical sacrament these days. The theory is that is the sweep the streets and constantly wash their vehicles as well- the rain won't wash as much dust and dirt into the storm sewers and then we will have a pristine watershed. But every once in a while, Mother Nature comes along and performs a giant dump on the liberals' foreheads in the shape of a Hurricane Irene and all of the multi-billion dollar mandated crap that these liberal bureaucrats have demanded is rendered moot. They actually think that the Mohawk River is in a static condition of idyllic trickling beauty with crisp and clean water and that our actions of street sweeping constantly and all the other "SWIPP" (look that one up) plans and mandates will protect it. They don't factor in something like a Hurricane Irene because liberals think they can govern and control the world and its environment and there is nothing that laws and mandates won't change. Even if it means the localities basically go bankrupt.

So how many attended the parade.  Newspaper can't print that?   20,000?

It is clearly not a good day for the parade, this move to have the parade conflict with the Thanksgiving day preparations, but also, the early start time conflicts with those who try to help the poor in the city.....the preparation work for the Concerned for the Hungry food packing.   The Saturday before Thanksgiving has long been the busiest day, the most important prep day and the volunteer work lasts til after 5 pm.

But then, socialist Stratton full of BS had to go and change it.   He had to cater to his taxpayer funded fat Morris when it should have been Morris to choose NOT to hold a show at Proctors because the parade was tradition long before fat Morris.   But nope, the dem "leaders" in the city had to cater to fat Morris who who rakes in millions and doesn't pay a penny in taxes to the  city and he doesn't do anything at all for the poor in the city, especially at Thanksgiving time.

The dems only care about insuring that their well-heeled buddies downtown are get rich off the financially struggling homeowners.    The dems do NOT help the poor.  NOT ONE.   NOT EVEN ONE  dem did any volunteering at this CFTH event.   Not even 5 minutes on any day of the week.   Nor did any of the well-heeled downtown.   Those who get rich off the financially struggling homeowners care NOTHING about this city as a community.   In return for getting rich on the backs of the financially strugging taxpayers, they don't even have the common decency to give back, don't have the common decency to hold dinner for the poor in the city in their palaces, and don't even have the common decency to spend the day volunteering for the CFTH event!    NOPE, they are too busy being vain and getting rich off the taxpayers.

Oh yeah, and biggest (in more ways than one) cheerleader for increasing taxes on the homeonwers also did not help the poor either, he was too busy trying to figure out how to suck up to the political crony socialists.  Funny, he wrote this past week I think about having a fund raiser when running for office, obviously he was a BIG BIG LOSER, because he never won, because no one wants a mama's boy socialist child representing them in government
