Schenectady has crime-- but it certainly is not as bad as it is in other similar sized cities in the Northeast or even in larger cities across the country.

Someone posted that Schenectady is as bad a Baltimore --- having lived in Baltimore for 4 years .. I would say that Baltimore is actually a rather pleasant city to live in with crime in certain pockets or neighborhoods of the city.   In the 4 years that I lived there, I never felt threatened or ever became a victim of crime.   The fact is that the only time im my life that I ever was a crime victim -- was when I was mugged about 30 years ago at Clifton Country Mall.

All in all -- life is what you make of it -- the nayboobs choose to live in the squalor of negativity and darkness .-- I choose to live in the bright light of optimism and positive energy.    Schenectady County is still an AWESOME place to live  ----  and it keeps getting better every year.

that's not the point....comparing schenectady to worse off places is shortsighted.....the issue is that NO ONE HERE NOW LIKES IT.....FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my guess is that arm twisting is going on to push consolidation....everyone crys uncle at the same time and....walla.....consolidation is an 'uppy' or grade in the ratings game system.....

so they say......patriot act = higher ratings via consolidation

senders, don't argue with DVOR/GG/scotsgod as he is known to make up stories to support his silly assertions. He doesn't know what he's talking about, and worse, he lies.
Who gets mugged at the mall in Clifton Park? What a wimp!

I believe that some of the crime could be managed better by meerly closing down a few roads. This would cut down on the excape paths of those who commit the crime.  The other areas would be able to be monitored more easily by the police.  The extra travel inconvienience would be more than made up for by the reduction in crime.   Call me crazy but it appears that the only thing that has held back the spread of crime to the north and west of the city is the lack of thoroughfares or landmark blockages.  Look at a map.  Union College, Vale Cemetary, Central Park, and Schenectady Municipal all act as buffers to these areas with lower crime rates.

Take for example the Mont Pleasant Section of the City.  I bet you would see inprovements in the crime in Bellevue and Hamilton Hill merely by cutting of or terminating roads such as:

Cut of Congress to Broadway
Cut off Francis Ave over 890
Cut off Craig Street orver 890
Cut off Crane near Sportsmans Bowl

Then put super high resolution manned cameras at Crane and Broadway, Norwood and Michigan, Michigan and Chrysler, and Norwood and Chrysler.

The deadend of streets are usually the most desired in all communities.  Lets make more of them!  Criminals do not like dead end streets since they do not allow a quick exit from the scene.

You DO know that you have total lack of credibility on these boards.    People who NEVER provide documentation to support their statements are those that tell lies.  You STILL have not provided ONE TEENY WEENY shred of proof that house values are increasing in the city, that tax BILLS in the city or county are going down, you have not provided any link to the alleged FBI numbers about crime going down, yo never provided any documentation to show how downtown is helping the neighborhoods, etc.

And of course you will never provide any proof that you were mugged outside of Schenectady

Lack of proof = lack of credibility =- LIES LIES LIES

CBS 6 News Staff/Mary Beth Wenger

The wife of former Schenectady police chief Greg Kaczmarek was among 20 people arrested in an upstate drug bust Thursday morning.

Lisa Kaczmarek was arrested at her home on Roma Street in Schenectady, the Attorney General's office confirmed to CBS 6.

The chief has been off the force for five years; his wife Lisa has been in trouble for drugs before -- she was cited in 2005 for marijuana possession.

Although he has not been charged, the former police chief was named in the indictment.  In a phone conversation on February 18th, the indictment says that Lisa offered her husband as "mule" for cocaine and said that as an ex-police officer, he would "flash his badge" if the need arose.

Greg Kaczmarek was later mentioned in the indictment for attending a meeting with his wife and another person charged to discuss how they could continue their drug organization after police had seized drugs earlier in the day.

According to our partners at the Daily Gazette, Kaczmarek's stepson (Lisa Kaczmarek's son) has been indicted.  Miles Smith is accused of retreving packages of cocaine and agreeing to sell the drug.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo held a press conference Thursday afternoon to announce the arrests.  Cuomo said that over $160,000 in heroin and cocaine was seized during the investigation, along with several firearms and drug paraphernalia.

A total of 24 persons are named in the indictment being executed across the Capital Region; four more arrests are expected.  The ringleaders of the drug operation, Kerry Kirkem, 40, and Oscar Mora, 30,  and Maximo "Max" Doe, are facing charges of possession and/or sale of a controlled substance and could face up to 24 years in prison.

The Attorney General's Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) led the 13-month, multi-agency investigation after being referred to it by the New York State Police's Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.  Cuomo said that the flow of drugs into the capital region has been the focus of his task force.

"My Upstate Guns, Gangs and Drugs initiative exists for this reason - to coordinate multiple law enforcement agencies in creating the most effective crime fighting force to protect our neighborhoods, Cuomo said."

This kid knew who shot his brother and decided to take the law into his own hands. This City is turning into the Wild Wild West - retaliation shoot outs, illegal firearms, the criminals driving around the next morning around the City.....seriously???

Who's manning the anonymous tip line....or is that now defunct?

I'm surprised that law enforcement doesn't place 'moles' on the streets. I mean the drug dealers aren't hard to find in the city. Anyone can get just about any drug on any street corner. And the drug dealers have GUNS!!!

If the police had gone in to prevent this shooting, people in the neighborhood would say that this kid was only carrying a gun around because _________
(fill in your own lame-o excuse) and he didn't intend to use it.

It's Gary McCarthy manning it between his 4 jobs. After all he is a self described law enforcement "expert". Unmanned cameras, unmanned tip line, no show Mayor. Only in Schenectady the armpit of Upstate NY.
