The Marine Corps heads Down Under: U.S. to set up base in Australia to ward off growing China threat 500-1,000 officers to form permanent presence outside Darwin More ships and aircraft to visit - but no new barracks built Beijing: 'Bilateral co-operation should be conducive to peace' By LEE MORAN Last updated at 5:55 PM on 11th November 2011
Australia is set to become home to hundreds of U.S. Marines - as America moves its servicemen to a military base on the northern tip of the country. In a bid to combat China's increase in global military and financial power, between 500 to 1,000 officers are to form a permanent U.S. military presence at a barracks outside Darwin. U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to formally reveal the plans - which will further anchor American influence in Asia but have prompted fears the area could become a target for terrorists - during a visit to the city next week. The U.S. currently only has a limited deployment in its long-standing ally, including the Pine Gap Joint Defence Facility spy station near Alice Springs, which has coordinated air strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan. The move represents a potentially significant geo-strategic shift, which is said to have been under consideration for some years as Washington looks to boost its Pacific Command................>>>>................>>>>..............Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....t.html#ixzz1dSNKTuOW

US military moves welcome From: The Australian November 12, 2011 12:00AM
TO have a US President visit Australia and focus primarily on regional issues is a historic prospect.
Our mission in Afghanistan will be high on the agenda, but changing military arrangements in Australia and the Pacific will be central. Our new US military co-operation will be welcome on a number of fronts. It represents a deepening and modernisation of the bilateral strategic links with our ally, it helps to anchor the US military in our region and it underpins an ongoing amplification of the US commitment to East Asia.
The details of the joint military arrangements will be announced by Julia Gillard and Barack Obama during his Australian visit, and his speech to the joint sitting of parliament will detail the wider context of America's Asia-Pacific strategy. Australia's interests will be well served by Mr Obama outlining a long-term and far-sighted role for the US in the Pacific, where we, along with Japan, continue to be crucial liberal-democratic allies as well as economic partners......................>>>>.....................>>>>......................http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/opinion/us-military-moves-welcome/story-e6frg71x-1226193102840

WORLD & NATIONAL BRIEFS
Quoted Text
Obama beefs up U.S. presence in Australia CANBERRA, Australia — Signaling a determination to counter a rising China, President Barack Obama vowed today to expand U.S. infl uence in the Asia-Pacifi c region and “project power and deter threats to peace” in that part of the world even as he reduces defense spending and winds down two wars. “The United States is a Pacifi c power, and we are here to stay,” he declared in a speech to the Australian Parliament, sending an unmistakable message to Beijing. Obama’s bullish speech came several hours after announcing he would send military aircraft and up to 2,500 Marines to northern Australia for a training hub to help allies and protect American interests across Asia. He declared the U.S. is not afraid of China, by far the biggest and most powerful country in the region. China immediately questioned the U.S. move and said it deserved further scrutiny. Emphasizing that a U.S. presence in the Asia-Pacific region is a top priority of his administration, Obama stressed that any reductions in U.S. defense spending will not come at the expense of that goal. “Let there be no doubt: in the Asia Pacific in the 21st century, the United States of America is all in,” he said.

Australia could be caught in Sino-US crossfire (Global Times) 09:15, November 16, 2011
US President Barack Obama arrived in Australia today for a long-delayed visit. It is reported that Obama is going to announce an expanded US military presence in Australia. The move is widely seen as a renewal of the US-Australia alliance to keep China in check.
It is also interpreted as a choice made by Australia between the US and China, the two largest Asia-Pacific powers. Prime Minister Julia Gillard refuted the interpretation Tuesday, saying that "it is well and truly possible for us, in this growing region of the world, to have an ally in the US and to have deep friendships in our region, including with China."
Nevertheless, both Chinese and Australian media outlets know that this is merely diplomatic parlance. Some Australians worry that this unfriendly move will harm their country's relationship with China, its largest trade partner........................>>>>.....................>>>>.........................http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/90780/7646279.html

Yeah, we need troops in Australia to protect us from China...because those that we have stationed in Japan are too close. |

Does Australia have oil?
No bumble... they don't have oil... If they did, G WORST Bush would have claimed that they have WMD'S and invaded Australia long ago. |

Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama flexing U.S. military might in the Pacific using pretty strong language.
Barack Obama says: “The United States is a Pacific power, and we are here to stay,”. Those aren't the words of a war mongering conservative but rather a supposed anti war liberal democrat. First Libya, possibly Iran next, now China.
When to dollar loses its status as the worlds reserve currency, and China becomes the world’s economic super power and begins to leverage their economic influence, America plans on leveraging our military since we can't compete economically anymore. |

Iran...(Did Barack Obama invade Iran??? or China??? NOPE. ALL recent US invasions have been by one President... George Worst Bush) |
