BREAKING NEWS: Schenectady PD officer arrested for DWI
November 07, 2011 4:19 PM
CBS6 Staff

SELKIRK -- A Schenectady Police officer has been suspended without pay for 30 days for his alleged involvement in two drunk driving crashes.

Bethlehem Police would only confirm that the man behind the wheel in both crashes was 39-year-old William Fennell and that he is an employee of the City of Schenectady.

CBS6 has learned that Fennell is an officer with the Schenectady Police Department.

According to investigators, they responded to a two car crash on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Routes 9W and 396.  Police say the car that caused the accident left the scene.

Officers followed the fleeing car, which hit a tree on Beaver Dam Road in Selkirk.  Police say that Fennell was in the driver's seat, refused to take a breathalyzer and was arrested.

Schenectady Police Chief Mark Chaires confirmed Fennell's suspension.

Saw the cheerleader in smack in the middle of State St with the pom poms, yelling out, "RAH RAH RAH, raise those taxes, cops arrested, money to the socialists"

Hopefully he was also charged with leaving the scene and evasion. Isn't evasion a FELONY? Maybe it wasn't a true evasion. The story isn't clear, just says  police chased the "fleeing" car.

Thank God that he will be losing one of his "acting" jobs soon and will have more time to do the other 3 jobs a little better.

I really wish this mess that Schenectady was a delusion but its not.  McCarthy was in a position of power and/or influence and the results are weak.  That is a fact. I dont care if he created 3,000, 4,000 or 10,000 jobs, this city is becoming a bigger joke.  That is fact.  So who is delusional.

What is your definition of "landslide"?

By the way, have you found REAL and OFFICIAL numbers to support your comment when you copied what a little newspaper worker said that values in Schenectady are going up?
Have you found the proof yet from the GCAR website itself?????

Well?    Can't answer that, can you.    ROFL

While the incident happened on his own time, it's still of concern that someone can be licensed for a firearm and be intoxicated and that irresponsible.   Does not make for a good example for the force or the citys image.   Surely this news does not put the city in a positive light, as the city now has a "dim" light as it is.   And according to the newspaper he is a resident of Selkirk not of Schenectady.

There have been individuals that have had their pistol permits revoked for speeding and then trying to out run the police. It's considered an irrational act.
