ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
McCarthy also wants to use the upper Union Street business improvement district as a model for improving other business corridors.
“Upper Union is a great example,” he said, describing it as a partnership in which businesses work together to market their area and work with the city on big-ticket infrastructure projects.
Hull wants to create a “business concierge” at City Hall to help small businesses get approvals and permits.
“We’re the least user-friendly place that I know,” Hull said.
He also wants to develop the riverfront, bringing in businesses focusing on recreation and historic tourism, and find ways to bottle and sell the city’s water.
“This is not going to happen overnight,” he said. “It’s not a quick fix, but it is a major thing.”

In other words McCarthy is admitting that Downtown is a failure. He wants to duplicate Upper Union on Crane, Eastern, Broadway and Albany St? Delusional and dangerous to the taxpayer.

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I like the concierge idea. Perhaps Hull could incorporate some recruiting functions with that position.

It bothers me that employees of a new business up there use the new parking area as all day parking for themselves. Guess if you know the right people you get special treatment...

Having city hall employees work for city residents? I don't know. That is too radical. We will have heart attacks if we go in there and no one gives us any attitude, won't we?
That bunch was hogging public parking all day too, weren't they? In case they "worked late". Ha. As you can see, this example of privilege and entitlement still bothers me. Probably because the entitled are still there, honing their attitudes of condescension toward those of us who aren't smart enough tobe on the inside.
