Arby’s, Subway close at 2 malls CAPITAL REGION — Arby’s and Subway have closed for business in both the Rotterdam Square and Wilton malls. The fast food chains at Wilton closed earlier this week. The franchises in Rotterdam Square closed on Friday, according to employees at both stores. A regional spokesman for Subway said the closures were ordered by the franchisee and had no comment. Property manager Noah Appley confirmed the closures this week, but had no further information to provide. “We are actively seeking replacements,” he said.
no reason to walk into the mall to buy a sub -- if you can visit the subway at 5 Corners
the Arby's will be missed - though

the mall is a ghost town now! Don't know how any of those businesses survive.

Rotterdam Square Mall is long overdue for a major update --
Two of its anchors are weak - Sears and K-Mart have been rumoring to close one or the other for years ...and the third anchor -Macy's -- has its own trouble ------------------ the mall needs STRONG ANCHORS to bring a stream of customers
The food court has been weak for years -- quite honestly when I worked there the only 2 places worth eating at were the Arby's and the Chinese take-out place.
The owner of Rotterdam Square Mall will have to be willing to invest millions to update the mall -- if it is going to compete with other area malls.

The rotterdam sq mall has had it's day in the sun. It will never be able to compete with Colonie or Crossgates or even Mohawk Commons.
Not to mention that the surrounding area folks do not have the financial means to sustain a mall. And the folks that do, generally will head toward rt 20 or wolf road.
Rotterdam is pretty well know for it's dollar stores, 2nd hand shops and walmart.
Couple this with a recession/depression and ya got the perfect storm!

All malls and commercial developments go through phases of rise and decline. Colonie Center and Corssgates Mall have BOTH gone through these -- Colonie Center's owners spent millions upgradingit and bringing in LL Bea, PF Changs, the Cheesecake Factory, etc to revive it but EVENTUALLY this current growth phase with peter out and the mall will decline and need a face lift/makeover.
Rotterdam Square Mall has gone through at least 2 cycles - of Rise-Decline-Renew -- It is LONG overdue for a major makeover and due to its great location .. i see no no problem with Rotterdam Square Mall becoming a popular shopping destination again .. IF IT IS GIVEN A MAKEOVER and THE RIGHT ANCHORS ARE BROUGHT IN.

Thank you Death Ray and all DEM revitalization idiots! You can't even find a McDonald's burger or Auntie Ann's pretzel in our mall. I will think Arby's somewhere else. Another indicator of the great economic condition here with these idiot taxers.
Rotterdam Square was always a mall for the 'country livin' folk......that Macy's has 'leftovers'.....nothing compared to colonie center Macy's.......and the rest of the mall has squallor......shame shame shame.....

You can sell your used gold or old phone over there. Coming soon with the all DEM morons a new plasma center and pit bull accessory shoppe. It's smell like renaissance! The have already picked your bones clean.
The Rotterdam Square Mall drew customers from as far west as Utica and Binghampton --- the Filene's did EXTREMELY well there ---- in fact during the time that I ran the Housewares Department there .. I grew the sales so that we did MORE business than the Housewares Department in Crossgates Mall.
The location is awesome --- it just needs some Grade A anchors stores --- and despite the efforts of the ignoramus nayboobs ... one can NOT blame the closing of the Arby's and Subway shops on Metroplex. Only a person who is either completely ignorant of the facts and no acumen for business (not to mention someone who is just a whiney bastard) would even attempt to place the blame on anything but the actual management of the two franchises and the general decline of the commercial property itself.

So why don't the overpaid Metrograft "planners" do something about it? Can't wait until the Macy's closes while your DEM idiots open up another governmental gin mill. Rotterdam businesses have been raided by these self described "planners' to prop up failed Downtown. They can't bring in any national retailer. They fumbled GE Solar. Because they are incompetent political hacks and taxpayers are starting to wake up about it.
The rotterdam square mall is cursed do to it's close proximity to SCUM-nectady. They will be bused in and the mall will be takenover. Colonie center and crossgates draw not only rotterdamians, but also Albany, Guilderland, Loudonville and obviously folks from colone. Most folks from duanesburg go by way of RT 20.
The city of SCUM-nectady has just about ruined the entire county. Except for Scotia Glenville. They are lucky enough to have water and a bridge that has to be crossed first!

The parking lots of Colony Center, North-way Mall, and Cross-gates were full of cars today when we were there. You can tell where the shoppers are spending their money this year.
I was just there today and noticed that, on a side note Empire State Coin just opened up a shop in Rotterdam Square mall, they used to be just in Crossgates but then expanded into Colonie center and now Rotterdam Square mall.
