This site would be better if individuals were not allowed to post under different names. I like to see different people's opinions, not multiple opinions from the same person "disguised" under different screen names. Is anyone fooled by this?

Again, the title of this thread is totally false. Union College PAID THE CITY OF SCHENECTADY for these properties on Seward...hum, where's that money trail?

Didn't see McCarthy complaining about Seward when millions were paid to the City?

Again, Seward is the only neighborhood where property values have NOT decreased.

Good point.   They love the spin.

There lucky that I'm not running the Union College.  If I was, I would be drilling a well and building my own sewer treatment plant to be self sustaining.  You cant say that the college kids put a big strain on the police and fire.

Can the city tell us how much water the college uses?

Curious.   Don't see the current Dems and their supporters attacking  Union College and it's Graduate School Bldg. at Nott Terrace/Liberty St.   This was taken off the tax rolls as well (?).   Probably not under fire as this was in part a Plex involved project, believe they got it shovel ready for the development by the college.   Suspect since it was the Dem Plex involvment with it, this is hands off for any criticism.   Unlike the bashing of the Seward Place project, which has Mr. Hulls' name attached to it and he being the Dems opponent.   Convenient/selective attacking placement.  Wonder if Mr. McCarthy was on the Plex board at that time when this Plex involvement took place?

All the politicians couldn't do enough for Union College. Roger Hull did nothing wrong acting as he did in his capacity as a college president. I do not like Roger Hull, but the politicians were only too happy to kowtow to a private, non-taxable entity. How did Union College get a ball field with a fence around it in Central Park? I suppose Roger snuck in in the middle of the night and set it up without permission?

Construction begins on $11M housing complex for SCCC

So the county buys the property for $140,000 with the state chipping in.  They then lease it to an outside firm who will pay $250,000 for a 40 year lease or $6,250 per year to make $168,000 per year in rental income. The county will pay no realestate taxes I am assuming on the property, but will essntially be stealing 260 units from the citizens of the city.  The average assessment per unit in schenectady per the most recent city wide reassesment is $30,000.  260 times $30,000 equals $7,800,000.  Interesting how that works out.  So now the county is really sucking on the teat of the city.  And according to Gary's Tweeks, thats a good thing.

https://twitter.com/#!/McCarthySchdy

Apparently the county doesnt like working  together with Schenectady or neighboring countys.  From the article.

"Schenectady County, which subsidizes part of SCCC’s roughly $30 million budget, will also benefit: students attending the college who live outside the county generate what’s known as a “charge-back” payment. In other words, their home county must send money to Schenectady County.

As it stands, Schenectady County pays more than $2 million annually in charge-backs to other counties, said Gary Hughes, a college trustee and county legislator. The new housing will help reduce that figure."
