Wasn't McCarthy Council president when all this happened?

He must have voted on it...correct?

Did McCarthy do what Stratton told him to do and vote for the Ramada and Seward projects?

Why didn't the Council not approve these Union projects .... or were they simply "Working Together"

if union buys them and coverts them, then that is union;s business. the council had nothing to do with it... the finger does not point back, lol

The Council in 2000 PAID for the Seward Streetscape. If McCarthy was so opposed to the Seward project, why did they pay for all the crosswalks, trees, lighting, new sewer lines?

Guess McCarthy was absent for that vote.

First.......I know first hand that there were many union student's parents that were not impressed with the city and the thought of leaving their child in this dangerous, unkept environment. These folks were paying 10's of thousands of dollars to go to one ofthe best college's in the country that is smack dab in the middle of a total disaster of a city! Hull acted in the best interest of the college which in turn benefited that part of the city. It was a win/win!!

Second......if memory serves me right....wasn't it the plex/Gillen and Susan Savage and Stratton and Gary McCarthy that tooted their horn about making down town a 'college town'? Those tax paid gin mills were created with the union college kids in the front of their minds. I believe Gillen, Savage, Stratton and McCarthy called it a 'college town'....yes? So what's the b**ch now?

Third.....I don't remember Stratton or Gillen or Savage balking when Union College took those crack houses and rehabbed them for college housing. Roger Hull did the city a favor and they know it!!! They supported it 100%!! Who paid for the paved road? This was a joint effort of sorts! Although it should surprise no one that Gary McCarthy and the democops are running scared and now trying to throw Hull under the bus for 'fixing up part of the city'!

Ya just can't make this stuff up!!! This makes McCarthy look like a lunatic!!!

NO ONE has shrunk the tax base like Gary McCarthy and Ray Gillen!!!! Ya know all of the taxpayer $$$$ that the GE got? Guess what? Those new employees don't know if they'll have a job in 4 years!!! Nice, huh?

Ya wanna talk about wasting taxpayer's money?? give me a break!!!

. McCarthy is in free fall. He can't run on his record. He can't budget. He can't win a debate. Even DEM committee people are supporting Roger Hull. This idiotic amendment will lose in a landslide.

As much as I'd like to see McCarthy tossed out on his incompetent a**, I fear the sheeple will re-elect him you know, without actually thinking - just he's on the top line, he's a democrat, and "Oh - I know that name...".

So not sure what real evidence is out there that would support the landslide comment.

(As much as I'd love to see that)

If this were true, and it appears to not be, the democops would not be in 'negative campaign mode'! The democops are in damage control now and are pulling out all the stops. Hull has a lot of support. Enough to win? Perhaps.

Your basing this on the idea that McCarthy has some form of personal integrity.

I'll leave it to others to discuss whether that is the case.

(E.g, he'd probably be doing this even if he thought he was going to win with a safe margin.  Losing is not an option.)

bumblethru, your memories coincide with my own. The politicians were kowtowing to Union College bigtime. It was annoying. I think BS thought that if he sucked up hard enough, Roger Hull was going to turn around and reward him with largesse to add to city coffers and then he (BS) would be wonderful. Of course Roger Hull was not going to throw money at the city. He had a responsibility to the college NOT to. OF COURSE he took advantage of whatever the city would throw his way. It helped to defray the costs to the college involved with clearing up some of the blight bordering the college, which the city was causing by not doing anything about problems in the neighborhood. The city did not have to bow to Roger's every wish. He could have been told no when zoning changes/planning board approvals were needed. Who's idea was it to rename Huron Street "Roger Hull Way"?
I am not a Roger Hull fan, but this is a ridiculous issue, especially with all the other really stupid tax exemptions given out freely to others.
Another thing. At least Roger Hull LIVES here. We have all these high paid "special deal" recipient clowns driving into the city in their taxpayer provided vehicles to collect their paychecks and going home to pay their lower property taxes to another municipality.
I got a mailer criticizing Roger's role in Metroplex! Metroplex was GREAT when Sue Savage was running those atrocious commercials taking credit for it!
