Downtown is OFFICIALLY considered a neighborhood --- just like the Stockade, Mont Pleasant and the other OFFICIALLY recognized neighbors. But I guess the people who LIVE in the downtown neighborhood and the businesses located in the downtown neighborhood don't mean anything to the Nattering Nayboobs and Tea Partiers.

This is where the middle class, if there is any left in schenectady, is being squeezed out. The middle class is paying for all of the patrons at the dss building, those on section 8, and those on food stamps. On top of that, they are shouldering the mother load of taxes for the million dollar businesses AND all of the non-profits!! Top all of this with paying for the county nursing home beast that 'can' and 'should' be privatized. Privatize garbage pickup! Turn the senior facilities to all non profits to run. Raise the rents on at least 1/2 of the municipal housing projects so section 8 will no longer be accepted there.
There is vandalism every day in the city that never hits the paper. WHY? Because it's almost expected. And unless something is stolen...they don't even report it. And if they do...nothing is ever done.
