It would be absolutely STUPID to build in Schenectady.

You build products closest to demand - not on the other side of the country.

Especially when the other side of the country is a state that rapes you with taxes.

And they are building and developing in China, Russia and India...why? Demand?

the NNTPers/Republicans couldn't attract a business to the town  ..  that is why you are jealous of the success of the Democrats at attracting business to the county

Hey wait, I answered that first....not fair!  LOW LABIR = HIGHER PROFIT    LOWER TAXES =HIGHER PROFITS       INVESTMENTS IN ASIAN AND MIDDLE EASTERN AREAS = LOW COST/0% INTERST FUNDING AVAILABLE

Watch the BONUSES GE SR EXECS GET at end of this year and then how much higher they are next year....all the "we couldn't find..." spin doctor crap is just appeasement to pretend they made an effort. All the moves and decisions made are for increased profits and satisfying the stockholders....and I don't mean the average investor, I mean the meg investors that own millions of dollars in stock.

Interestingly enough - the specific thin film panels being built in Colorado are not going to be able to be deployed in China.  (According to an article I read months ago)

According to the Volumatrix article from today, in relation to the solar panels to be produced by GE:

"Most of the raw materials, the Cd and Te, used to manufacture these solar PV cells and panels comes from China. "

This country doesn't manufacture a damn thing....PERIOD! And for anyone to think that GE ALMIGHTY will save the day are just delusional. Putting your eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster. Just look at schenectady. GE ALMIGHTY comes in, sets up business and when it choses to pull the plug, everything goes to sh!t.

Where are the other manufacturers/industries? Where are the clothes, furniture, tools, electronics, auto......etc manufacturers??? Walmart is another cog in this economic wheel. Walmart was the 'beginning' of this driving force of lower wages and to sell the  cheapest products available. That can only be accomplished by 'manufacturing' your product as cheaply and lean as possible. And that wasn't going to happen in this country. Between union wages/benefits/pensions, greed, unrealistic regulations and pure laziness, the other countries became the next unchartered frontier. And who came out the winner? WALMART!! Remember folks, Walmart has surpassed GE as the largest corporation. And Walmart doesn't manufacture a damn thing! WALMART is #1 globally.

This country is NOT business friendly as the global economic climate dictates. Our education system is substandard. People have become fat and lazy. Corporate CEO's are raking in the bucks and the government is taking control while the american zombies sleep.

China will allow the production of such panels within their borders, but only for export.

Um they will be, apparently in about a year.  I don't know where and if similar thin film panels are being manufactured elsewhere.  Just that China won't allow domestic installations of them.
