The key words are SUITABLE SPACE - you can find a building that has 200,000 square feet .. but that alone does not make it suitable --- there could be issues with water supply or maybe the building would need too much work (new roof, etc) to make it suitable or location to transportation hubs .. etc.
By the way, my sister and brother-in-law live and our family has "financial interests" in the community where GE chose to locate the plant in Colorado. So while the plant did not get located in Schenectady, the decision actually will still be quite beneficial. |

Come on Box... you asked to find you a location - I did that.
Now you're saying that nothing is suitable?
You know what - that's why Metroplex is there...and gets paid $100K++ of the taxpayer money every year....YOU MAKE IT SUITABLE!!! You sell it, you hype it, you close the deal.
Never let someone walk with a phony bologna excuse like that - economics 101!
I gotta stop listening to trolls.....sorry!
My post was: "GE tried to find a spot suitable in the Capital Region or elsewhere in New York, but couldn’t find anything they could get operational by next year." I don't know what their requirements were (other than the 200,000sq ft) but none were found. I'd contact GE if you feel that local buildings were not considered. When discussing Schenectady on this board, nothing ever just happens as it's reported... it is ALWAYS a conspiracy, and someone is ALWAYS responsible, usually with sinister motives. If the cynics of this board represent the community, it's no wonder a business would look elsewhere for new opportunities. |

Paying Mr. Gillen $100K+++ per year to have a GE company relocate to another state. Didn't NY State just give GE $15 million for expansion?
Guess they took that money and built in Colorado. |

The 'suitable location' thing was a nice way of saying..............there is no one employable in schenectady.
It was just a smoke and mirror statement. OF COURSE there was suitable locations here. GE isn't that stupid. They just think Schenectadians are.

Today's Business Review General Electric's decision to locate a $300 million solar panel manufacturing plant in Colorado wasn't a shortcoming of New York's efforts, but a lack of inventory. "New York is clearly open for business. They worked all the angles they could. They just did not have a building that allowed us to get to market fast enough," Vic Abate said in an interview with The Business Review. Abate is vice president of GE's renewable energy business, headquartered in Schenectady. New York vied for the $300 million plant but lost, largely because there was no existing facility big enough and within a one-hour drive of its Capital Region facilities, he said. Also working against New York: GE was already making test solar panels at a Colorado company it acquired this year, located near where the new plant will open. http://www.bizjournals.com/alb.....p;utm_medium=twitter |

GE was not looking for employees that only know how to screw in a light bulb, or how to mix a martini or flip burgers. No disrespect to any of these folks............but GE was apparently looking for a higher caliber of employees.........and schenectady doesn't fill the bill.
Bumble seems to think very little of the area work force. Ge disagrees: ~ "GE will add 100 doctorate, engineer and technologist positions between two sites in Schenectady County to support the work in Colorado: GE Global Research in Niskayuna, and its global renewable energy headquarters at its Schenectady campus." ~ |

And that's a lie. One in Rotterdam and more than 5 within an hours drive of the Capital Region (there's two in Albany). Come on, fess up. How much did Colorado give you GE? More than $40K? More than $15 million? |

Finally figured this out. In April of this year, GE bought PrimeStar Solar, located in Aurora, CO (developer & manufacturer of solar panels). It was an easy choice to build a factory right near this site.
Obama had come here in Jan 2011 touting how great GE is to New York. It would have been insulting two months later to inform New York that they lost a $600 million manufacturing solar panel plant. |

Not to worry -- once Election Day is past and the Democrats win HUGE victories in Rotterdam, Glenville, Niskayuna, County Leg and, of course, in the City of Schenectady .. we will be hearing a lot of positive economic development news .... new projects, new job and even greater economic vitality for the City-County of Schenectady. |

Can't blame GE. Big business has to go where there are 'employable people'. GE's not stupid. They know what the welfare climate is in schenectady. Perhaps Colorado has more 'brain power'. It would be interesting to compare welfare statistics!
It would be absolutely STUPID to build in Schenectady. You build products closest to demand - not on the other side of the country. Especially when the other side of the country is a state that rapes you with taxes. |

GE doesn't 'need' anything....they can make the sh!t where ever.....they were the finely dressed lady at a ball that didn't interest her, but went anyhow, that quietly excused herself from the ballroom to go play tackle football...... |

Nothing good ever happens in Schenectady... If something good did happen, tell this board, they will get rid if it immediately! |

Back in 2009 the Plex gave GE $5 million and NY State gave an additional $15 million for the $100 million dollar battery plant with 350 job openings......
Now a $600 million dollar plant with the same amount of jobs and no incentive goes Colorado.
Yeah, not hard to find the inconsistencies eh Box? |

Too bad most of it is made up by the spin-meisters at demoCRAP Metroplex in the backrooms so to help their flock! |
