Troy’s Madison Handbags expanding, opening second manufacturing operation in Schenectady The Business Review by Pam Allen, Reporter Date: Thursday, October 13, 2011, 7:22am EDT
Pam Allen Reporter - The Business Review Email Madison Handbags is expanding west. The design-it-yourself purse company in Troy, New York, is opening a second manufacturing operation, this one in a 6,200 square-foot building at 131 State St. in downtown Schenectady. The company’s 64 employees make between 5,000 and 7,000 purses a month from a Civil War-area foundry in Troy’s industrial section. Owner Trish Rost said in August that the company she founded in 2005 with $5,000 and a single seamstress, was outgrowing its current space and planned to expand. Rost expects to increase revenue and staff by at least 50 percent in 2012, and has added 15 new employees this year. The purses, totes and other accessories the company makes are sold at home parties, where guests design their own purses from dozens of styles and 80 different fabrics. Prices run between $48 and $178 for items that range in size from small totes to weekender luggage. Madison Handbags bought the Schenectady location from Girls Scouts of Northeastern New York, which occupied the building until about a year ago, said Christine Primiano, principal planner for the city of Schenectady. The nonprofit Girl Scouts organization paid $460,000 for the building in 2005. The property and single-story building are on the north side of State Street, situated between the offices for the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp. to the west and a parking lot to the east. The back of the parcel abuts Liberty Street. Primiano expects the company’s application for a change of tenancy will be approved at the city planning commission’s Oct. 19 meeting. She said the building, built in 1970, is in good condition and an ideal fit for Madison Handbags’ manufacturing operations. “I don’t see any problem in passing their request,” Primiano said. Madison Handbags opened its own production shop at its Troy location in February in 2009. Before that, the bags were manufactured at a facility downstate.

it CAN'T just be lead paint in the old buildings like the leaders want everyone to fear......
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Each article does not say HOW much Madison Handbags purchased the building for (sure MC1 will find out that low number) AND it also does not indicate that this building would be going back on the tax rolls.
This is code for Metroplex: if they neglect to state it - it doesn't exist.
The company will make new products here and ship them around the country from their Schenectady address
oh, a shipping center. Wonder what kind of "back door traffic" they'll generate and if the streets (Liberty & State) can handle a mass production manufacturer in that area.
First..........nothing adds up. Why are they moving to schenectady when they state that they will keep manufacturing in Troy?
Sounds like the mildred elly story all over again.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Someone should call them and ask when they expect to be operational and what jobs will be available. Wages, benefits etc.....
