Madison Handbags to open office in Schenectady
October 13, 2011 11:19 AM
CBS6 Staff

SCHENECTADY -- Madison Handbags will open an office and production facility at 131 State Street in downtown Schenectady, and is expected to create 40 new jobs through 2013.

"We welcome Madison Handbags and its great success story to Schenectady. The company will make new products here and ship them around the country from their Schenectady address. We are grateful for their decision to open to a facility in our community," said Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy.

The company, founded in 2005, has operated an eco-friendly production facility in Troy for the past three years.  The Troy location will continue to produce more than 75,000 handbags each year.

Metroplex will provide $40,000 in grant funding to help with the cost of improving the existing building façade and other building improvements.

Now, more than ever American made products and manufacturing are the key to economic growth. Our company mission has always been to provide opportunities for women, professionally, financially, and socially, and we are honored to be working toward that vision here in Schenectady," said Trish Rost, President and Founder of Madison Handbags.

Now McCarthy has created 44 jobs! They came because of the $40,000 taxpayer handout and will flee when it is depleted. This almost makes up for Olender's-lol. Where's the retail McCarthy?

This is another shell game. Their tax exemption probably crapped out in Troy so Plex gets them here for $40K, no property or school taxes and an EXPECTED 40 person job growth...in two years.

Again, giving property away to a company who could have come here without being bribed. Tax exemptions have been the Plex ploy forever, but the $40k grants?!?! How about LOANING taxpayers money (with a little interest) to companies?????

What crap. Different day, same give away for a 'promise' of jobs. How many were promised by the Parker Inn?

A major announcement just before the election-NOT! No retail, no new jobs, no governmental gin mill, typical nothing from the working together idiots. Acting Mayor McCarthy has created 44 new jobs-4 for himself 40 for Troy residents. BFD. We don't need no proven administrator as Mayor. We will listen to the illegal alien trolls.

"Now, more than ever American made products and manufacturing are the key to economic growth."

Good point except maybe someone needs to tell her it can't come at the cost of leaching off the taxpayers like the rest of downtown. Competition and demand is what creates success and controls the market, seems they're off to a bad start

McCarthy had nothing to do with this. Like every other job he lies about. 5,000-lol. McCarthy is too busy raising every tax/fee and riding around on a garbage truck like an idiot. No wonder all his support is from the sticks. Great more corporation welfare. Look for another contribution to the working together coffers.

Is there one honest reporter left and why they didn't expand in Troy?  Does anybody ask WHY they choose to leave Troy for Schenectady?  Wouldn't a REAL reporter ask why the taxpayer of Schenectady should feel you won't leave Schenectady for a short term better deal and free money?  The media is just a propaganda machine, they definately are not the government watchdog.  More like the government lap dog.

I'm sure women in schenectady can afford the typical $50 to $170 cost for a handbag.

Will the workers be paid enough to buy a house in the city?
