Schenectady police use Taser on unruly suspect By Paul nelson Staff writer Updated 05:12 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011
SCHENECTADY -- Police zapped a Brooklyn man with a stun gun Monday night when he became unruly after leading them on a short foot chase along a city street, according to a city police spokesman.
Lt. Mark McCracken said Miguel Jackson, 23, has been charged with obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, both misdemeanors and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
The police spokesman said Jackson was a passenger in a vehicle that patrol officers had pulled over on Albany Street.
While the officers were questioning the driver outside the vehicle, Jackson took off on foot and was nabbed a few blocks away at Albany and Kelton Avenue in the Central State Street section, McCracken said. He said the officers deployed the Taser when Jackson became belligerent with them as they tried to arrest him.
The other man, 24-year-old Akai Gurley, also of Brooklyn, who was behind the wheel, has been charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. The pair were released pending a court appearance.

Not that I'm saying that this guy should be thrown in the clink and the key should be thrown away, but I mean really. It came down to hi needing to be tasered and dragged off to jail for him to "calm down" and they really think that this guy is going to voluntarily come back? And CPCS (criminal possession of a controlled substance) is a "violation?" Really? Last thing I knew, these were being tried in County Court (at least that's what I thought when I was sitting on a grand jury, but maybe since things are "improving," it's just a ticketable offense).
Article states the subject was tasered as the officers were trying to arrest him. Question : Was the subject less than 5 feet from the officers? As I recall in regard to the Gazette shooting it was stated that subject was too CLOSE to be tasered, less that 5 feet. But in the State St. case it would seem if he was resisting arrest/becoming beligerant, he must of been within arms length and under the 5 feet distance that was stated about the Gazette shooting that said he was too close to be tasered. I believe it was prev. stated that a subject must be 10-20 feet or more away to be effectivley tasered.
Majestyk - you left out a key component of that equation a knife and the ability to close the distance before the atsre is safely and effectively engaged.
And you recollection that a subject had to be 10-20 feet away to be tasered is inaccurate.
This is the second man from Brooklyn involved in criminal activity in Schenectady in two days.
Sunday night a man from Brooklyn who had a gunshot wound, crashed his car into a gate on Union on his way to the ER. Then this happens Monday. PS - if he's from Brooklyn, HOW would he know where the hospital is???????
WHY are people from Brooklyn coming here and committing crime....probably because they can. I really believe we have to look at Schenectady and find out where the drugs and gang are because it's attracting LOTS of criminals to our City.
Better get the raid because roaches are infesting....
Keep the implosion going! Under this enlightened "leadership" The Pit Bull City has become Bronx North. We need more businesses like the pit bull accessory shoppe on upper Broadway Off The Rip. Keep re-electing the same idiots and expecting solutions. Call the post office when you see a loose pit.

There is absolutely no one in charge of the cities goings on. Every department, organization and yes even the cops....have no oversight by the government who is suppose to be the gate keepers of the taxpayer's money!!!
The city is clearly a mess that is being run by NERO!!

It's SO true! There is an implosion from Downstate...and not of homeowners or the middle class. It's people looking for drugs, gangs and obtaining easy access to welfare benefits.
Again, if the City is going to continue to ignore reality, the criminals will continue to rule.
I work with ladies from Brooklyn who live on Stanley street....they came here for the 'quiet'.....they will be moving back to Brooklyn because the gun incidents are outnumbering the rainy days......
