Mr Goody 2 shoes crime is rampant in the City it started with the Security Guard he made a mistake and then it became a crisis
Bingo! If the security guard had reacted properly the SPD would never been called. Hard to ignore the story when it's at your front door? Crime, gangs and pit bulls are running wild but the cheer leaders keep looking in the other direction and stuffing their faces.
So do they think that this guy deliberately went to the gazette building, knocked on the door, asked for water, hung around for a long time......just to use his 'loaded' knife to attack someone??? Was that this guy's motive all along????
Albany Med got two gun shot wound victims from schenectady in 24 hours. They are probably wondering what the hell is going on here.

Print Story Published: 9:33 pm Share Updated: 9:39 pm While 21-year-old Elvis Norwood recovers from three gunshot wounds at Albany Medical Center on Sunday, his aunt is raising concerns about his recent treatment at Ellis Hospital.
Norwood was shot by Schenectady Police inside the lobby of The Daily Gazette building on Saturday afternoon after he allegedly displayed a knife and ran at a police officer.
Schenectady Police Commissioner Wayne Bennett says the incident appears to be a case of attempted suicide by cop.
Schenectady Police say Norwood lives at 603 Hattie Street in Schenectady.
A woman who answered the door there on Sunday afternoon identified herself as Nicola Norwood - Elvis Norwood's aunt.
She told FOX23 News that her nephew has sought medical help for feelings of suicide twice in the past few days.
Schenectady Police confirm that they brought Norwood to Ellis Hospital on Friday, September 30th.
Nicola Norwood says Elvis was released but then went back to the hospital late last week before being released again late Friday night.
She says her nephew left home for the night and turned up at the Gazette's Maxon Road Extension office on Saturday afternoon.
Regarding her nephew's treatment at Ellis Hospital, Nicola told FOX23 News, "Maybe they should have kept him."
An Ellis Hospital spokesperson had not returned several pages by late Sunday night.
Nobody from the Gazette would talk to FOX23 News on camera on Sunday but Managing Editor Judy Patrick told us by email, "We will be reviewing our security procedures here to see if they could be improved."
Both Officer Brett Ferris (who fired four shots) and Officer Timothy Rizzo are on paid administrative leave as the investigation into Saturday's incident continues.

if the security guard had acted properly -- yes .. things would have been different
which means that the ultimate responsibility for the incident lies with the security guard and the Daily Gazette which employs the guard

Gazette GM plans to review security Executive responds after man who was let in wields knife and is shot by cops By LAUREN STANFORTH Staff writer Updated 10:10 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2011
Larger | Smaller Printable Version Email This Font SCHENECTADY -- The general manager of The Daily Gazette said Sunday the newspaper will review its security procedures after a disturbed man was allowed in and was eventually shot by police Saturday.
Gazette General Manager Daniel Beck said the man, whom police have identified as Elvis Norwood, convinced the Gazette's security guard to let him into its main office on Maxon Road Extension for a drink of water around 3 p.m. Saturday -- despite a policy that forbids anyone from entering the building on the weekend who does not work there.
The guard walked Norwood to a water fountain, but the man refused to leave the building. The security guard, who works for the company G4S, followed the man for 30 minutes as he wandered the building, Beck said. The guard then called a Schenectady Police Department number, not 911, to report the intruder. Police did not immediately respond.
Beck came into the office after being called by the security guard and talked to Norwood as he sat on the floor in the Gazette's lobby. Beck, who talked to the man along with Beck's girlfriend, Linda Eldeen, said Norwood appeared to be in a haze and could barely understand what Beck was saying.
When Eldeen noticed a shiny object in Norwood's hand along with blood, the two backed away and Beck called 911, he recounted Sunday. Police later said Norwood, 21, had a steak knife in his hand.
Beck, who watched the police shooting in the lobby, said two officers talked to Norwood for five minutes trying to convince him to drop the weapon. Just as other officers walked through the front door, Norwood took steps toward an officer with the knife in hand, and an officer fired, Beck said. Norwood was hit three times, in his arm, chest and abdomen, police said.
"He talked his way into the building, that shouldn't have happened," Beck said. "If you don't have an employee pass code, you shouldn't be allowed into the building."
Beck wouldn't comment on the employment status of the security guard, but said the newspaper will review its security procedures with G4S. Currently, security guards are used there on nights and weekends.
Schenectady Public Safety Commissioner Wayne Bennett said during a news conference Saturday that Officers Brett Ferris and Timothy Rizzo responded, but called for backup officers who use Tasers. When the Taser-equipped officers arrived, that is when Norwood approached Ferris, who fired four shots.
Norwood was eventually transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. He's expected to survive.
Nicola Norwood, the man's aunt, said he called Ellis Hospital recently and said he wanted to kill himself, prompting police to respond. She said the family is shocked that he had a knife in a public place, but expressed no ill will towards the police. "There's nothing you can do about it," said Nicola Norwood from the doorway of the Hattie Street apartment where her nephew lived. "It's a lucky thing he didn't lose his life."
Police Chief Mark Chaires said Sunday that even when Tasers are available, another officer has to have his gun drawn to provide cover. In this case, the officers with the Tasers had just arrived. Tasers "are not a replacement for deadly force," Chaires said.

This person sought help and did not get proper treatment if you read my statement earlier it was right on the
money. The mentally ill have a real problem it's called "look the other way" and the hospital is at fault for
not keeping this person. A pill or cocktail of meds and out the door you go if you are lucky you will be a good
patient and will not need further help. If this person was at the hopital more than once in the last few days,
then I believe I was right. There is no REAL help for the mentally ill.
And they shot him. it was no suicide by cop. if it doesn't make sense, it's not true.....
Ellis's ER was probably just too busy with ambulances stacked outside to take care of a mentally ill patient. Hell, they can succeed at heart by pass surgery, but they can't handle a mentally ill person or one that comes in with gun shot wounds. They transport them to albany med!!!
it's appearing more and more that there is more than enough blame to go around. In the end...this guy should not have been shot!

The security guard did act properly. They are taught to observe and report and nothing more. The police on the other hand are trained and equipped to handle these situations. And yes, that includes the mentally ill and drug addicted. I doubt this is the first encounter with a person released from the Ellis psych unit. But I'm sure the official report will read this was handled by "the book".
This isn't the security guards fault, or the Ellis psych unit's fault, it's the trigger happy poorly trained, shoot first ask questions later SPD policy's fault.
i do not think we should second guess a cop's decision to fire on someone with a weapon,... if the man was unarmed, then yes, questions should be asked. if police beat a man to a pulp, as they did in california, then questions should be asked.
if someone comes at me with a knife and i am holding a gun,... guess who is going to be standing at the end.

The cops KNEW the guy and his history of mental illness!! The hospital was negligent. The gazette didn't follow their own security measures. The cop shot a weak, sick, bleeding mentally ill man with a 'loaded steak knife'!!
What's to investigate?? Heads should roll.

In my world, a security guard doesn't open a locked door after hours to any stranger for any reason-- and it was after hours.
In my world, if someone points a knife or a weapon at me .. he or she is going down.

What if he had a sling shot, or a boomerang, or a sharpened stick? Do you still shoot? These men had body armor on, night sticks and pepper spray. What did the mentally ill guy have a steak knife?
What's next artilary and air strikes? Isn't there such thing as proportionate force?
