You make it sound like .... 'how dare anyone question authority'! Isn't that the job and the right of 'we the people'? American's are slowly but finally getting off of the 'it's all about me', 'greed' train and taking a close look at what is going on around them and how it is impacting their lives and the lives of those around them.
So yes some do question the fact that this guy already had a history of being picked up by cops in the past. He was weak, he was bleeding and yes he had an 'unloaded' knife.
If he were THAT violent...why didn't he pull his KNIFE on someone else BEFORE the cops got there? Motive? He took a glass of water from someone....yes?
I think we can all agree that questions should be asked by the citizen in this case. It would be irresponsible and unamerican if they didn't.

I'm certainly no union officer nor do I make 120,000 a year and I'll never be retired at age 40. More importantly, I do not attempt to stop anyone from questioning critical incidents that happen in our community so they have a better understanding for what has occurred. More individuals from the community need to be involved.
But with that being said, you can sit in your comfy living room tearing good cops to shreads because you have lost your way but that doesn't mean that it'll go unchallenged by individuals who think differently. There is a big difference between an officer committing bad acts and an officer doing his best to "Protect and Serve" while putting his life on the line. Me, I'll stand by the Officer trying his best to do a very difficult job.
You have 3 posts on this forum in which 2 were nothing but attacks, I suggest you try a little harder to make a point in your posts. It is the job of the citizens to question every move of our servants, not questioning them and being obedient has led to abuses of power which now seem to be the norm. Now any honest question or suggestion is met by hostility by our police, I made that clear in the other topic.
"In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot."
It is too bad cops are all radical democraps. Do you go to Sue Savage fundraisers too and rally to end the death penalty? Were you at the State Democrap convention when Hillary was nominated and the Police Color Guard was spat upon by protesters and called "pigs?" But you still throw all your votes to the democraps, don't you?
Now there was this cop who I thought was the greatest, and he was my version of a local hero. yet he ended up in prison and although it was proved later he did very bad things, I sent money in and attended his fundraiser for his legal defense and I even wrote a letter to the judge asking for leniency AFTER it was proved he was a criminal, But you see, later I realized that him and his own were just scoundrels and bad people and I had been fooled into thinking that he was some mighty lawman who had stood for the innocent and the good. It is very disallusioning to me and many others. Then after the Clinton justice department filled with liberal democraps had put him in prison, his whole family had taken up with those very same liberal democraps and they all cozily sleep in the same big left wing bed!
Now why back the police when they want a communistic and left wing state? Why back them when they cover up for their own no matter how bad or heinous some of the officers behave? Why back them when they put on black shirts and flip off the elected officials (do you remember there is civilian rule in this republic?) and become hyper left wing political? I have no truck with officers on the street doing the proper job, but I am questioning, questioning, questioning all the time as YOU have brought this on yourselves. And you with your insulting demeanor have come here to be rude and disrepectful even further proving my point.
That is why you all stand alone now, with only the left wing politicians on your side. You have lost at least half the citizenry as a source of support. We don't trust you running politics...
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
From "Protect and Serve" to "Shoot to Kill (and Serve our Democrap Masters)"
Sad sad sad.

I appreciate your suggestion. Questions, comments and a thorough investigation is the right way to look at incidents like these. Ridicule, sarcasim and unreasonable spewing of misinformation is the wrong way to go about it and my response to one individual was just that. As I said earlier, more community members need to be involved and it's never about "how dare anyone question authority" it's about looking at a serious situation and how it was handled and more importantly how can it be handled better in the future. Sometimes it can be handled better and sometimes the individual did everything right. Lets look at all the FACTS and go from there.
We don't trust your version of the "facts" anymore. The coverups have gone on too long! The good cops have told me confidentially about what is going on. You and the brass, in bed with democrap politicos have created a reality out of whole cloth and even a fiction writer would have a hard time outdoing what happens in Schenectady and Rotterdam that people don't find out about!!!
We will not be spoonfed your lies anymore! All it is is spin and PR now. You wonder why we are jaded and sarcastic and disgusted. Were you born in a vacuum? Just you coming here and being mocking and wiseass and acting like the typical shavehead/blackshirt puts your whole profession in a further bad light. You are obviously here to monitor and slam the Republicans as ordered by the Scamilton clique. You prove how political you are by monitoring these boards.
Policing has lost its credibility. Sorry, but nice try.

Hmm, really? Maybe we ought to starting issuing knives to officers. >
It's always a gun fight? You're right, the Officer should have put his specialized martial arts training to good use and disarmed the subject with his bare hands...
Lethal force is the only option for a trained officer? What about the night stick, pepper spray, and taser, surely TWO officers can disarm and immobilize a 21 year old man with a mental illness using one of those non lethal options?
Instead of arming cops with knives, we should arm the mentally ill with guns since they seem to be at a disadvantage when faced with the SPD. This is the second mentally ill citizen shot by the SPD.

Nope, sorry to say I have never attended a Sue Savage fundraiser and the death penalty legislation is an entirely different subject. I personally believe that if you kill someone, in certain circumstances, you should be put to death. But, I also have some reservations on sentencing someone to death when I have seen some innocent people found guilty of crimes they have not committed. It causes me to pause to sentence someone to death without being 100% certain they committed the crime. Can't reverse putting an innocent person to death. As for the individuals I'm certain about, I think they should bring back the electric chair.
Sorry to hear you were jilted by someone you thought was a local hero and don't even know where to begin with all the other rants that I have no idea about. I don't know how that has anything to do with a cop from SPD having to shoot someone who was 5' or 6' away from him coming at him with a knife. But I guess you have that rationalized in your head in some strange way.
My point, how about discussing what really happened, investigate it thoroughly so all the facts are known publicly and then make comments and suggestions on whether it was handled correctly or not. Furthermore, make your opinion known in a public forum so that people can make up there own minds based on the facts not sarcasim and misinformation.
Why not use the bean bag guns as opposed to lethal force. The man was obviously mentally ill and suicidal. No rational person would attack an armed police officer with a knife unless he had a death wish.

I never understood why some people feel that an officer who goes through a police academy is a professional fighter. I for one would find it foolish to try and disarm a mentally unstable man with a knife using a night stick or pepper spray. I don't care if there were four officers, it still would be foolish in my mind.

Was a bean bag gun an option? I don't think any local departments have them to my knowledge. If a non-lethal option was available and reasonable then that's what should have been done.

I never offered any version of the facts. I only know what I have read and heard in the media. It was you who provided a false version in an effort to mislead others.

I can only speak for myself, but maybe Graham will agree, is that people are losing faith in our hyper political police force and those in charge of investigating them. The police are losing public trust, and this is because Schenectady has one party rule, with the DA, City and County Legislators, and Judges are all playing for the same political team. With the police having enough political clout to keep that team in power, citizens are beginning to question how in every case the SPD uses lethal force it is always found to be justifiable.

I never said they were professional fighters, but I have talked to enough officers to know they have been trained in hand to hand combat. That's not even the point or suggestion, my suggestion was for use of night stick, pepper spray, or taser. If a mentally ill person armed with a knife isn't a situation where you use those non lethal options. What is a situation when they do use those non lethal options? Are those saved for women, children and the elderly?
