SCHENECTADY, NY (WTEN) - Schenectady police are investigating an incident near the Daily Gazette building at 2345 Maxon Road Extension on Saturday.
According to sources a man refused to follow police orders and put down a weapon.

Check with WTEN for more updates

Yep, one raid, the city cheerleader proclaims Schenectady is saved.    Just remember that crime went MUCH FARTHER down after Al's raid which was much much bigger.    But the problem is, tell us how many more raids McCarthy held in the city?   Oh that's right, one raid for a photo op, then stop spending money on protecting neighborhoods, go back to giving the money to the millionaires downtown.

Gee, and the people STILL need to leave the city to shop.

So one definite shooting during the day and another possible shooting during the day.   WOW, this is oh so wonderful for the quality of life in the city.   Gee, wonder if the city's lone cheerleader on this board would live in the city and let a child of his play outside.

SCHENECTADY -- A man with a knife was shot inside the Daily Gazette's Main Office at 2345 Maxon Road Extension by Schenectady police officers late this afternoon, according to the Gazette.

According to a tweet from the newspaper, the man was taken out on a stretcher.

A person answering the phone at the newsroom said no employees were hurt and that they'd have a statement soon.

The Times Union is sending a reporter to the scene now. Check back later for an update.

And this from the Gazette itself

A man who was admitted to The Daily Gazette lobby around 3:45 p.m. today and then refused to leave was shot about five times by police officers when he charged them with a knife.

Witnesses said the man, a black male in his early 20s, appeared drowsy and medicated when he first arrived at the Gazette’s locked front doors. The man asked a security guard on duty for a drink of water, and the guard allowed him inside.

After the man drank some water, he began to wander around the main lobby, the circulation department and the hallways for about 45 minutes, despite the security guard asking him to leave, witnesses said.

The security guard then called the newspaper's general manager, Daniel Beck, at his home, and Beck and his friend, Linda Eldeen, arrived shortly after at the building at 2345 Maxon Road Ext.

Eldeen said she and Beck walked up to the man, who appeared tired and weak as he slouched against a wall at the back of the lobby. Eldeen said she asked the man if he needed any help and he replied, “Yes, I need some help. Get me help,” she said.

During the brief conversation, Eldeen and Beck observed a shiny object in the man’s hand that was previously hidden by baggy clothing. They realized that it was a knife and that his hand was bleeding.

At that point, they said, they walked away and called 911. Schenectady police officers arrived and entered the building. Two officers approached the man and asked him to put down the knife, Eldeen said.

"For five minutes they asked him to put the knife down ... he did start going at them. He looked like he was going to charge them," Eldeen said.

Witnesses said the officers were about five feet away when the man charged them and they opened fire.

Witnesses said they heard about five shots fired by the two officers and observed the man fall down.

The identity of the man was not immediately determined. A Mohawk ambulance arrived to take the man, who was still breathing, to Ellis Hospital at approximately 4:20 p.m.

Sgt. William Fennell said officers did not use a taser on the man.

Leave it to the Gazette.  The story is about a shooting IN THEIR OWN BUILDING, then they have someone throw in a fact that everyone could tell you... they didn't use a taser.  No $hit, Sherlock, he's at the hospital due to gunshot wounds, not after-effects of a taser being shot into his 4$$.

I am disappointed they only shot him 5 times, since that means they fired about 35 shots. The lobby of the Pravda office must look like Swiss Cheese. Of course a tired and screwy man with a knife needs to be shot as many times as possible. When they could use a Taser, they use a gun. When they could use a conversation, they use a Taser. What will they do when they really need the gun, have a Bazooka?

Oh dear, I need not 'second guess' their training. I am only a citizen of the State and have no right to ask if they have a right to kill!

Sounds like a 'suicide by cop.'

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

He now has a touch of lead poisoning.   Is the Gazette management going to fill out the survey?  Is the City going to pay to get the blood stains out of the lobby rug?
