UPDATE: Teen says man tried to abduct her in Schenectady VideoImages Reported by: Paul Merrill Email: paulmerrill@fox23news.com Videographer: J. Ficurilli Editor: J. Ficurilli
Schenectady police are trying to get to the bottom of a reported attempted abduction that happened Tuesday morning near the intersection of Oakwood Avenue and Howard Street.
School officials said a 13-year-old girl had left Mont Pleasant Middle School without permission when she says a man grabbed her and tried to pull her into his car.
The girl reportedly fought off her attacker and got away.
"It's not really surprising, honestly," says Danielle Mitchell who lives right near the intersection with her 1-year-old son. "A lot of stuff like that happens all the time around here."
Mitchell tells FOX23 News that she doesn't think her neighborhood is safe. "As soon as I graduate, I plan on moving from here," she says.
A lot of residents had similar reactions to news of the alleged attempted abduction.
"I'm not really really surprised," Cherie Mackenzie said. "This neighborhood's getting worse and worse."
Only one person interviewed by a FOX23 News crew on Tuesday evening had anything good to say about the neighborhood around the middle school.
"I like this area," Naisean Sheridan says. "I live here so I don't really see too much wrong-doing on this side."
Most people said that their neighborhood is a bad part of Schenectady..................>>>>.....................>>>>..................http://www.fox23news.com/news/.....T56LhT6A.cspx?rss=39

Oh no no no, it did't happen. Shut fox23 down, they should not be reporting these lies.

Not saying this is something that is wrong to be brought up, but I was wondering how quickly it would be. The fact is, with many of the things that are going on now, we find reasons to blame the (attempted) victims. Yes, she should have been in school, but at the same time, it shouldn't be thought that she wouldn't have been safe if she wasn't home. What if she was sick this day and didn't go to school (I know the story says otherwise, but it didn't happen ONLY because she skipped out of school early, did it? Was this the first question that the attempted kidnapper asked her, "Are you skipping out of school early? Why not get in the car and go with me?)? The fact is, whoever this girl is, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it's not safe to walk ANY of Schenectady's streets, even in the light of day. Just more of Schenectady's renaissance. Good thing crime is down. |

Gravel,
If you have some strange fascination with Nazi Germany, I suggest you visit a concentration camp or go to a lecture from a Holocust survivor. Your disgusting remarks and unkind words would come back to haunt you.
You want to discuss an issue, then do it. Your Nazi symbolism is pathetic and I only wish people with your evident lack of decorum ceased to exist. |

I thought the same thing. |

I, too, was questioning why she wasnt in school. I also wonder who allowed her to leave. I know they have hall monitors there. |

Gravel,
If you have some strange fascination with Nazi Germany
I think it's more of an admiration. Not just an admiration for Nazi totalitarianism, but admiration toward the successful businessman. |

That's easy. I started the morning with your mother, and finished with your wife. She said you wouldn't mind since you were probably somewhere under your boyfriend. |

I wonder if her name is Tawana. Fought off her attacker? Yeah sure, a 13 year old girl can fight off a grown man, no problem. I bet if you interview her again, you'll hear a different story, and a different description. |
