Schenectady tries to block gun petition
At issue: Four weapons signed over in March by ex-cop John Lewis

SCHENECTADY -- The city is blocking the release of four handguns that former Schenectady cop and convicted felon John Lewis signed over to a female county probation officer.

"We're concerned that there is some chicanery potentially going on here and we want to get to the bottom of it," Schenectady Corporation Counsel L. John Van Norden said Friday. "Our concern is the safety of the public."

Earlier this year, Lewis, 42, was released from a federal prison after serving part of a 16-month sentence imposed in November for having a fallen comrade's gun in 2009 when he was prohibited from doing so by a domestic-related order of protection.

That penalty ran concurrently with two one-year jail terms from Schenectady County for admitting to computer tampering and drunken-driving charges as part of a negotiated plea to resolve several other mostly domestic and drunken-driving offenses over the past few years.................>>>>..............>>>>...............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....48.php#ixzz1YsEvs2Dn
